Hi,
I've recently started training again after many years off. I ran 1.51 in high school and then went backwards freshman year (1.52.5) partially because of the intro of fun living, weight gain and changes in training program.
At stopped running at 20, with a PB of 1.49.
My weight at 17 was 134 lbs.
My weight at 20 was 156 lbs.
My current weight is 161 lbs and dropping. I'm shooting for 140 lbs, but very very lean muscle strong frame.
I would say I was 12-13% body fat. I had very poor diet choice/understanding and enjoyed the social aspects way too much.
I hated mileage. I doubt I ever did more than 60 miles.
Some of my PB's were:
400m 48.4
800m 1.49.7
1500m 3.56
5k 16.02
8kxc 26.20
I rarely raced the 1500m, but it probably should have been my main event. In races I liked to run as slow as possible the first lap but stay in position and then kick home.
I don't want to be disrespectful and say I could have run much faster, but I don't think I got near my potential. Purely my own fault there! Young and dumb!
Anyway, after a 15 year layoff I've been training full time the last 3 years (mainly crossfit, weights) and have started doing stride intervals the last 3 months.
I came across the Igloi training method and picked pieces out of it and started with the 30 x 100m.
I'm doing the 100m with a rolling start and doing them at 12.5-13.5 seconds and then I rest for 1 minute and repeat for 30. It's taken me about 3 months to build up to this, started at 10 then 15, etc. I'm now doing them 3 days a week, rest days in between each, but I do light weights but very high reps.
I never used to do weights when I was younger.
Now I do weights everyday, but lightweight, 100 lbs bench, but I do 50 reps continous. Everything I do weight wise is high reps, 50 or even 100 of some dumbells.
Anyway, I wondering what experience people have had with Igloi because I honestly feel like I could probably run faster now than when I was 20.
I've already done a few sub 50 400ms in training.
I know that Johnny Gray used the Igloi method. But anyone here, maybe not so elite, or elite if you want to give me your thoughts, have any ideas on how good this training system is before I go all in on it.
I've decided to run some races in 28 weeks times and trying to figure if I stick the course and add more Igloi training or should I go with a more conventional training method.
thanks!
