I'm a high school senior and a captain on my school's XC team. This year, we have no coach (our school refused to hire one) so the AD is filling in. We are doing the workouts from last year.
Anyways, I am having trouble getting the team to take cross seriously. Though we have some pretty fast runners, I am the only one who ran consistently over the summer and am the only one making an effort during workouts. When I do run faster to hit my interval times (or to avoid slogging along at 10:00 pace on long runs), I'm teased and yelled at. Somehow most of the other girls pull it together for races and run pretty well, but I can only guess how fast we'd be if everyone took the workouts seriously. It doesn't help that half of our varsity squad leaves to play lacrosse in the spring! I run all three seasons, so it is my main sport. I just want the team to take this season seriously, get together, have fun, and make some great races happen.
I know I've seen some great coaches like Mr. Aris from FM post on here, among others. Any tips on how you've gotten your athletes committed? I know not having a coach really hurts the situation, but you have to play the hand you're dealt, you know?
