Here is the better question: Could Eaton beat the NFL in a decathlon? All the NFL teams are about to trim their rosters to 53. Could the NFL, using those thirty-two, 53-man rosters select 10 guys (one per event) that could beat Eaton's recent WR or perhaps his PR's? I think it would be close, which is amazing. However, I think the NFL would win, unless they NH/scratch/foul out of an event.
Oh, and I think the 10 guys that are chosen have like 1 month to prepare.
100m - Slight edge to NFL - Eaton can run 10.2. Trindon Holliday is still in the league, so I'm betting he can still run under 10.2. There are probably dozens of guys who can run in the 10.2 range.
LJ - NFL wins here too, despite the fact that it's one of Eatons best events. Marquise Goodwin went 8.37m (27-05.5) recently, so he is still in top form. Again, not a big margin either way.
HJ - NFL, probably. Driver retired, so I'm not sure who to pencil in. But you have to figure there is a 7-footer among them. Eatons PR is 6-11, but he can't do that consistently. Again, not a big margin.
Shot - Easy win for NFL, by a large margin. Basically any lineman would beat him, but there are a few 65+ guys in the NFL.
400m - Eaton here. 45.00 is freaking legit. No guy in the NFL could do that w/o training for a long time and losing weight. Am I wrong? Eaton coudl make up some ground here.
After day 1, the NFL leads, but the only large margin of victory was the shot.
110H - Eaton I think. His recent WR wasn't THAT impressive, but his PR of 13.35 (!!!) is crazy fast. I don't know of any elite hurdlers in the NFL right now. However, that doesn't mean there aren't any. The kid from Oregon will probably make a squad before long.
Disc - Easy win by NFL. Margus Hunt.
Jav. - Another easy win (probably) for the NFL. I don't know who, but there have to be plenty that beat him. I'll just say JJ Watt, just for fun.
PV - easy win and wild card for Eaton. The risk of the NFL guy getting no mark or a complete crap mark is high. I bet there is an ex-vaulter in the NFL, but I bet he is rusty, and I bet he wasnt really that good.
1500m - I thinjk eatons wins here as well, but it's tough to make up many points. There is probably some young DB that could log a semi-decent time.
On Day 2, I think Eaton wins 3 of 5 events, but can't overcome the deficit in the throws.
There you have it. Flame away!
