I'm trying to decide between the Brooklyn RnR or Hartford half marathons this fall, both of which are the weekend of Oct 10-11. Will be shooting to run under 1:09, so Hartford competition looks decent while Brooklyn is a new race (after being a 10k til 2013) so it's a wild card, though top 5 get prize money so in theory there will be some comp.
Primarily I'd love to get info on the courses though. Hartford looks somewhat rolling, though most of the elevation gain is in the first 8 miles at least.

For anyone who has raced it, how significant are those hills? How is spectator support? Seems like lots of turns, do those end up slowing you down by the end?
Brooklyn RnR on the other hand looks totally flat, except a big hill in the last mile. It's only one hill, but at 12 when your legs are nearly shot it seems like it could be brutal.

How bad is that hill in Prospect Park? And not just for a normal run, but how bad is it going to be at the end of an all-out half?
Any other insight on the courses would be great. I'm not a great hill runner and am primarily looking for the race where I can run the fastest. Thanks.
