For soccer tryouts each year, the athletes are timed on their mile. For varsity an 8 min mile is strongly encouraged. Last year I got close with the time 8:10, and would have made varsity despite that had some things not happened. This year I want to improve my mile and hopefully make varsity. I was wondering if there were any particular training drills/outside fitness that could be recommended...
I have found advice such as :
improving quarter and half mile
jogging 5min then going faster for 10min and ending with a 1min sprint
Training speed 5 days a week and doing distance 2 times a week
Doing planks/sit-ups/squats etc to increase core strength
I have 3 weeks until tryouts and I'll be training every day. I'm going to be training for a 7min mile, since it will help me with 8 min. I'm a 16 yr old girl, and any advice would be helpful. :)
