There's been a 6.6k in Pittsburgh the past couple of years to support former Penguin great Mario Lemieux's (66) charity. They have finisher medals at this race along with tech shirts. I have and will continue to stay away from this race. Too much money and too many slow people queued up near the front.
The 35m dash--indoor track at Alfred University.
pi day 5k.
3.1415 mile race starting at 9:26:53 A.M. The race helped me to learn the first 10 digits of pi though.
There's a race in Salem, MA called the 'Devil's Chase' which is 6.66 miles long. Will be held on Halloween this year:
I've always found it odd that in all the 5ks I have run, none have ever split the race into kilometers. If you are going to have mile markers, just make it a 3 mile race. If you are going to have a 5k, then have kilometer markers.
I ran the steeplechase in high school where 2k was the standard distance. One year at the state meet, we ran on a track with two water pits and starting lines to accommodate. They had us start on a line that should use the outside the track pit but he first time through the water jump they had us go through the standard inside the track pit. The next couple jumps the staff redirected us to the outside the track pit. Who the hell knows how far we actually ran.
1 3/16 miles (same distance as the Preakness)
Crows Flight Marathon
Seemed a hell of a lot longer than that.
a race distance is truly odd if it is intentionally made to be that distance. I've ran in several trail races that were nowhere near what some RD's would make their races, but the reason for that is because of the way these trails were set up. 10.8k, 12.8k (5.3k), 11.5k, etc. These distances happen because you are trying to conquer some of the parks most notable trails, not to get that kind of distance.
Also, before complaining that XC distances are odd, consider that some venues have the very same restriction as trail races do, but this time the start and finish lines have to be in the same location. Here in Ontario, courses were able to vary by as much as 400m from a set distance because there were 6 different races going on. In the same year, I ran one course that was 6.72k and a provincial championships that ended up being 7.33k.
The poster that mentioned the Mario Lemieux 6.6k, now THAT is an odd distance because they intentionally made it 6.6k

That thought process is what made me change my log and watch to kilometers. I figured if most of my races are 5k and 10k, wouldn't it make sense to split per kilometer? I made that chance Jan 1, 2011 and haven't looked back.

There is a surprisingly active running club in central Alaska and they put on dozens of races a year, often two or three a week from April to October. Most are odd distances or not accurately measured.
April
Beat Beathoven 5K ranges from 4.9 to 5.2 km
May
Murphy Dome Roam 11.8 miles
Presbyterian 5K 2.8 miles
Torch Run 5K 2.9 miles
Statehood run, they add 0.1 km each year to somehow commemorate the state's age. So now it's at 5.6 K.
This year the certified Chena River Run was 0.2 mile short. Ooops they missed a turn there.

Mosquito Meander 5K is typically short, a little different each year.
Midnight Sun Run 10K (largest singe race in the state) - has been at 6.3 miles the past couple of years.
Spruce Tree Classic - trail race, between 6.8 and 7.2 miles, changes about every year.
