Which is the best NYC area running club in terms of competitiveness and social activity.
Which is the best NYC area running club in terms of competitiveness and social activity.
Get ready for a pissing contest...
What's to piss about? Westchester is the best, hands down.
Other competitive clubs which race on the local scene are Warren Street, West Side, and NYAC.
I don\'t know anything about the social scene as I spend too much time training to party all night.
Like the man above said... WTC kicksazz
Greater New York has some good top runners. The NYAC isn't a club, it's a team, and you can't just join. They're kind of weird about who they recruit. Central Park Track Club has a lot of runners of varying levels, so there's always someone to workout with. They're also pretty structured. Stay away from Warren Street unless you want to try out illegal substances, in which case, maybe you should check them out.
Socially? They only club that I have seen socializing is Warren Street and the Manhattan Track Club. Depends on your age range. Warren street has a 30-45 drinking beers type of social scene. Manhattan Track has a 20-something bar type of social scene. Warren Street has no chicks to offer up, unless you're into old Russians on drugs. Manhattan Track has no females, though they are trying, unsucessfully. Central Park Track Club has the most females to offer up, but I don't know their social scene, if they have one at all.
Hope this helps.
Dude, If you can get on the Manhattan TC thats the team to join. They are the most competitive and focused of the gourps mentioned above. If your into just having fun and social running then join Warren Street or CPTC. I m not impressed with NYCAC. Just a racing team, but nothing special. See if you can hook up with the Manhattan TC. Thats your best bet. Good luck.

Not impressed with the NYCAC? You can't even spell it right. It's NYAC, and it's not a club. It's a team. There's no coach and no practices. Every runner has their own coach, or they coach themselves. The NYAC runners are spread out all over the country (and world), and actually had a handful of Olympians this year. The NYAC runners in NYC (just a handful of runners) usually have the winner in the local races, when they run, and are at the very least usually in the top-3.
That being said, I would recommend Manhattan Track Club if you're good enough and you're willing to put up with 20-something male runners. If you want a wider range of abilities and a wider range of ages, I would recommend Central Park Track Club.
I like the NYAC fine. Indeed one of the things I stressed when I was in the recruiting process is that I wanted to contunie coaching myself.
The best part of the "NYC League" is that pretty much no matter what club (team?) you join, you can hang and run with others. I have done hard and easy running with members of about 5-6 other NYC clubs.
nyac as for anti-semites. no jews allowed at all.
Ever heard of Dan Middleman?

Recreational or performance enhancing?
yeah i heard of middleman. that's just one guy. they regularly turn away jewish folks. trust me on this one.
Well, considering that NY has such a large jewish population... if a club turns anyone away there's a good chance they could be jewish.

Who runs for the NYAC team? Do you need to be a member of the club? I understand the price of membership if one is able to join in prohibitive for the 'non-affluent'.
How does one go about running for the club?

The only thing competitive about manhattan are their workouts! They are "run" by that ding-dong contopolous who bloviates occasionally on this board. They aren't even in the same ball park as Westchester and Warren Street's ateam would beat them. I beat even cptc would give them a run for their money, west side y too.

Can someone please post any web sites or meeting places and times for the listed clubs in New York.
Don't run for anyone there, they're all a bunch of drunks.

Click on the 'New York Clubs' hypertext on this link.
West Side is mostly, but not exclusively, Latino, so you can work on your Spanish conversational skills while training with them.
Well, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black...
