Is this their Olympic trials? As in will their Olympic 10k runners be selected from this result?

This is their World Championship trials.
More likely their WC team.

smh
Just picking through the startlists, the highlights appear to be:
Men:
Imane Merga - multiple time world medalist
Ibrahim Jeilan - former world 10,000 champ (the guy who outkicked Mo Farah in 2011)
Tariku Bekele - 2012 Olympic bronze medalist
Muktar Edris - world XC bronze medalist
Women:
Florence Kiplagat - Kenya's half marathon WR holder
Belaynesh Oljira - world 10,000 bronze medalist, 30:26 PR
Gelete Burka - 31:08 PR this year, 14:31 5K PR (ran 14:41 this year).
Hiwot Ayalew - top steepler, former World XC silver medalist ... track 10,000 debut?
Mamitu Daska - 2:21 marathoner
Buze Diriba - world champs 5th placer in the 5000
I'm sure I missed a couple, but that's a start.

Those are the same 4 guys I picked
Edris doesn't have as much experience at the 10k as the others, but his bronze at world XC certainly built his case
If the pace is hot, which I hope it is, I think Jeilan is out, but if it gets tactical, I say Edris
Merga has already run sub 13 this year, he's fit, I think he's a lock, but you never know
Interesting. How does Ethiopia's trials system work?
Many of us would be curious to hear details of selection process since some of these athletes are likely to be top contenders.
For starters, obviously it's NOT Ethiopia, I would guess because best runners are on European circuit and because of lack of top facilities in Addis. Yes?
Is this an open race with runners from other nations? Or mostly just an Ethiopian-only meet with a few Kenyan guests?
Do the top finishers get automatic spots in worlds? Or is there some discretion for coaches to award spots?
Thanks for any info!
how on earth wasn't this be made public earlier. Even in The Netherlands hardly any newssite has put this up.
Big problem of the sport!!!!!
Americans should be getting into these races, since they are open to other nationalities.

why can't they pay priscah some serious $$$ to turn up & blast it from the gun ???
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2013/09/priscah-jeptoo-uses-mid-race-434-mile-and-3003-10k-to-show-shes-queen-of-the-roads-and-defeat-defar-and-dibaba/The race doesn’t list an official 20km split but we’ve done the math. From 15km to the finish, Jeptoo took 18:17 to run 6.097494 kilometers, which is very impressive. That’s 14:59.5 5k pace.
So Jeptoo ran a 30:03 10k in the middle of a half-marathon and then tacked on an extra 1.097494k at sub 15:00 pace.
Sick

Doubt any Americans would run it as USATF/ World trials for the USA is next week. The 10000 for Americans is a week from Thursday.
Interesting they have pacers for their trials as they only have to have the top 3 go under 27:45 for men and 32:00 for women, wouldn't think they would need pacers as those are pedestrian standards for the runners running tomorrow.
I thought I read Meseret Defar was going for the 5000/10000 double in Beijing, she has not run this year, I hope she is able to compete soon.
That would be a good 5000 team G. Dibaba, Ayana and Defar and in 2016 will be Tirunesh Dibaba.
From Alberto Stretti's blog:
Final Confirmation 10,000m Trials:
Men (27:45 qualifying time)
1. Imane Merga
2. Ibrahim Jeilan
3. Tebalu Zawude
4. Tariku Bekele
5. Yigrem Demelash
6. Mosinet Gebremew
7. Yitayal Atnafu
8. Leul Gebresilase
9. Adugna Takele
10. Muktar Edris
11. Tamirat Tola
12. Birhanu Legese
13. Fikadu Seboka
14. Asmeraw Mengist
15. Tesfaalem Gebrearegawi
16. Gideon Kipketer - pace
17. Nicolas Rotich - pace
...So my question is, WHERE IS ABERA KUMA??? He was actually SOMEWHERE near the winner (3.56 sec off of Mo, for 5th place) at 2013 Worlds, whereas Merga was more than 20 seconds away (slower than Ritzenhein), for 12th place. Maybe Kuma is running in Sollentuna like Gebremeskel did in 2013???
Anyone have information about a webstream?
Jeilan will be top 3, no matter the pace. He's talented and hungry. I'd love to see Merga make it. Yeah he's got a reputation from a few years back, but he's a colorful runner and it'd be cool to see him at worlds again.
How about the 5000? Who's gonna run for Ethiopia? Too many studs.
Kuma has already moved up to the marathon. 2:05:56 debut in Berlin last year (3rd I think) then 2:06:47 for win at windy Rotterdam back in April. He also 3rd in a half just 10 days ago.
Went where the money is I guess.
I don't understand Edris running this 10K ... last year he had the fastest 5000 time in the world, has already ran 13:00 this year (Rome) and has shown a very good kick in the past.
Reminds me of Gebremeskel moving to 10K in 2013, after running 12:46 the year before and might have beat Farah in 5K in London with better last lap tactics (too far back at the bell). Although of course Edris isn't yet close to the level of Gebremeskel that year.
We'll also have to see if this is the last 10000 trail for Ethiopia this year, haha. 2013 comes to mind ... where Pre was supposed to be their trial, then they took top 3 from Sollentuna.
Abera Kuma is a marathoner now:
Third in Berlin 2014 (2:05:56)
First in Rotterdam 2015 (2.06:47)
Also ... I'm very interested to see how Yigrem Demelash goes.
He ran 26:57 and 13:03 back in 2012, as an 18 year old (the usual qualifications there, but at the least that seemed to be his first year competing internationally).
Since then he was gotten slower (13:13 and 27:15 in 2013, 13:11 last year ... only result I found for this year was a 1:09 half back in March) and I haven't heard much about him anymore.
I'm a bit surprised to not see Atsedu Tsegay on the startlist. A roads guy (58:47 half from 2012) but I remember him making a much-touted try at the track a year or two back. Some hyped him as a potential threat to Farah. He ran 27:28 in that 10K in Sollentuna in 2013 ... not sure if he tried anymore track races.
I might have read he was already trying to move up to the marathon though ... of course. Can't find any marathon results for him though.
Of this list I know T. Bekele and Jeilan have all had unsuccessful forays with the marathon. Maybe Merga too? He was been running the roads a lot lately at least.

Glad someone mentioned that. Ethiopia is not a democracy and their federations change of minds can't be taken to court - their various trial rules are like written in water, if someone else comes along to run a big world leader later he'll most likely be on the team.
That said Sollentuna on the 26:th doesn't yet have a 10000 on the program (and neither a 5000 or 10000 for women), but of course that might change if the race in Holland turns out to be too slow due to heat or something and enough of the guys think they can run sub 27 next week in Sweden.
But that that said I think the pure NUMBER of Ethiopians gathered in Holland this year proves that they really want it to be BOTH fast and the real trial. Some of less knowns might even be planned rabits.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
