Ok, I'm not as fast as most of you on this board, but I'm a female, and I ran my last half marathon in the fall at a 7:25 pace. Since then my fitness has declined a bit, I think due to indoor training/no long runs.
Last week, I got in a nice 7:15 5 mile tempo, 4 x 1 mile repeat at 6:40/mile, and a 15 mile long run at about 8:10. This past week, I got in a 5 mile tempo with 4 miles at 7:15 and the last mile at 6:50. Normally, I do most of my non-speedwork, non-long run workouts around an 8:00 pace.
As of a few days ago, I literally haven't been able to run faster than an 8:30 pace. My muscles don't even feel sore and, instead, I'm gasping for breadth. If I keep trying to push, I start getting chest pain. Any ideas what could be going on? I went out today and things went downhill fast. I kept trying to push through the workout, and was eventually gasping my way through a 9:30 pace. I supplement with iron, so I can't imagine that my iron levels could have fallen so quickly. Any ideas what could be going on? This isn't the first time it's happened.
