Not racing Mary seems to be the smart thing for coach Salazar. She just finished next to last at Oxy. She's clearly not ready for a DL 1500.
Sometimes as a coach, it's hard to admit things are going well and you keep trying to force it and things get even worse. Thats' clearly not the case here. It will be interesting to see what she does the rest of the season - if anything.
Great field.
Main question for me is: How fast can Efraimson go?
I'm seeing her as akin to Webb in the 2001 Pre mile.
El G the favorite, but let's see how this HS kid hangs with the very best!
Turns out that kid did pretty well--HSR!
Will it be the same for Alexa---minus the HSR, as she's not eligible!
Sub 4?
Possible, but not probable.
4:02?
VERY possible!
Bad day?
Next to last, or last....like Cain recently!
Hats off to the organizers for keeping the field down to twelve. I've witnessed some train wrecks in the past when they allowed too many starters. I think it has been as high as 15-16! Too many, IMHO. After her 2:01, I'd guess Alexa is looking at least 4:04, maybe better.

What gives you any possible/probable indication Efraimson could go sub-4, if she gets under 4:05 it will be an accomplishment.
I hope Jenny pulls down big win. Alexa could probably shoot for 4:02-4:05 off her recent 800m.
If Ms. A.E. Runs 4:02.5 or better from now until August 15th, I will strip naked and dance in the streets.

Can we get pictures (and a zip code), so we know whether to root for or against Ms. E?
PS A tape of you dancing would also be helpful....

Not sure exactly when, but I think her coach (Mike Hickey) said she's capable of 3:59.
And I'm pretty sure he meant this year!
Don't have the link, but will try to find it.
Whatever the case, I noted it's "possible"....NOT probable!
This race is pretty much a preview of who will make the world team, the only thing its missing is Cain. Maybe shes pregnant? May the best woman win.

Found the relevant quote.
In a Ken Goe (Oregonian) article, I found the following (directly quoted from article):
Hickey said Efraimson's outdoor opener (4:09.43 at Mt SAC) was a pleasant surprise, and caused an adjustment in expectations.
"Initially we thought 4:02", he said. "I think that still is the main goal. But she may go faster than that--maybe 3:59. I think that's possible now. We'll see if she can get in the right races, and race against high-level competition."
Oh, if it were only that simple for a female athlete to run a sub 4 minute 1500m race.
I love this field and can't wait to see how our girls do. Is Katie Mackey racing? She has been on fire lately but I don't see her listed in the 1500m or 5k

I heard they tried to get her in but Nike wouldn't let her
What is Mackey's personal and season best times? Maybe they don't warrant a spot on the starting line. I'm Not judging, just asking!

Goe is a hack.

Because the poster is a noted boob.

I agree that nothing logically says 359. She did come down 9 seconds from 416 to 407 last year but it gets harder to pb the faster you get. The advantage she has going for her is no one has really been paying attention to her. Hell she was in the third heat of the 800 at hoka. All of the focus has been on cain.
Obviously that will change if she runs sub 405.
If she does it then hats off to the coach as he's clearly had some sick plan bhr one doesn't normally go from third at my sac in mid april to 1609 for 5k on may 2nd to sub 4 at the end of the month. That would be an incredible turnaround.

I don't know of all her races but remember her being 2nd indoors behind Shannon. And she just won Oxy.
IAAF has her PR at 4:04 from a 1st place at Oxy in 2013. She got 3rd last year at USA outdoors 1500.
She doesn't seem to get in anything good.
Jenny just ran 2:00.79. She has a shot at the AR in the Pre. I expect, as we have seen from her recently, a front running performance that leaves the rest of the Americans in the dust. She' s got the speed now and no reason not to put the hammer down to get one major accomplishment that's missing from her resume. She might tow Rowbury to sub-4 also, but there's nothing to indicate that Shannon can compete with her this year.
If Alexa is savvy enough to survive the pace we could see a new AJR. But her record so far is to take on the leaders at suicidal mid-race pace. Great heart, but I don't think she's got the base or speed yet to compete with Jenny. If she shoots for sub-4 she won't take down Cain's AJR.
I believe the women's 1500m record is our oldest major track running AR on the books. (There is Wohlhuter's 1k record, a minor event not often competed outdoors). Also, it's a rarity when an AR is set on American soil.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
