I've only been running semi-seriously in the last 4 to 6 months and my resting heart rate has dropped from about 60 to 45,
I was pretty shocked when I measured it the other day because my heart-rate has never been close that low my whole life (I'm a male in my 30's).
My 10k pr is about 44 minutes and I only avg 20 to 30 miles a week right now.
41 when fit. Sometimes 39 or 40.
I run 50-65mpw, with workouts and racing.

42 when I ran regularly 20+ years ago and I was a mediocre runner at best. Now in my mid 50s and a bit overweight it is 46. As previously stated it can't be used to compare one person to another.
As another runner who tends to average 20-30 a week, I find that getting your miles in less runs helps make the best of such low mileage 10k training. Something like 7, 8, 12 being a good week because it's all over distance. More difficult to run that way from a middle distance type but it's more specific.
As for the topic my heart rate is way too high. used to be 55 I should stop drinking so much coffee for one.
Why are all your heart rates so low? Mine is 61 minimum. What can you guys run for like 1500 through to 10km? I am a lot faster than the 44 minute guy (sorry).

(max HR / resting HR) * 13.7 = VO2Max
In other words, if your resting HR is sky high you won't have a good VO2Max.
Lance Armstrongs Resting HR = 30.

If however you are serious then that is a ridiculous formula. I have run 15:40 for 5km on the roads. This formula gives my VO2 Max as 44.9
Resting is for losers. Therefore I do not have a resting heartrate.

There seem to be a few of us with relatively high resting HRs. Every time this topic comes up, someone mentions that Jim Ryun had a resting HR of over 60. I'm a sub 15 5k runner with a resting HR of 55-60.
I believe that a higher resting HR typically correlates with a higher max. I've never tested my max HR, but I used to sometimes do workouts with a monitor for shits and giggles. I would typically be ~10 bpm higher but at a lower level of exertion than my teammates during LT runs.
My heart rate was 60 when I basically did no training and under a ton of stress at work -- I would have seriously struggled to go sub 52 for a 10k at that point.
I haven't tried any time trial for anything shorter than a 10k recently but based a recent interval workout I think I could run about a 5:20 mile / 20:30 5k.
I only started training recently and have some weight to lose (5' 10", 170 lbs, 16% body fat) so that could explain some of the slow time relative to low heart rate, but I think the correlation between runners is low and only personal trends really matter as far as times go.
MY RHR was 72 when I had open heart surgery15 years ago to get a mechanical aoritc valve. Started running three years post-op, RHR is now 45.
Sometimes sitting on the can gets me up into zone 4.
Was 38 when I was really fit. 54 after being injured for over a year.
