Why did she feel the need to race with lipstick on? Athletes don't need makeup while competing.

uh, she's wearing plenty of eye makeup too.
lots of female athletes wear makeup if you look close enough. Rowbury is wearing more than usual, it seems. who cares.
mmm....ever heard of Allyson Felix
During the 2mile awards interview she was asked about the lipstick. She said it's for two reasons
1 - the event is supposed to be gala-ish and fancy, so she's trying to fit the part
2 - her grandma wore hot pink lipstick - so it's in honor of her

There are several threads already up about this. Why don't you look around first?
Lip stick is one thing but what she had on was gross. Looked like a two year old doing herself up.

I just came on here to post the same link. When I found out the reason I chuckled because I have a grandma who wears that kind/color lipstick too and when I saw Rowbury I was thinking "That looks exactly like something my grandma would wear."
Also damn you for making me google what "ICYMI" meant.
According to that RW article her grandmother died in 2011 - so why did it take so long to honor her?
also isn't it time to move on?

Hasay's sticking her tongue out, Rowbury's got lipstick on, it's all good and adds character and colour to athletics. I'm glad we're all talking about it.
F-it she's hot
Pretty sure this isn't the first time she has worn make-up and lipstick in races. Also, why does it matter?
runners have enough problems drawing attention to themselves. applying lipstick like children is not necessary.... i guess all publicity is good publicity, but seriously, have a friend w/you when you go makeup shopping.

this color might work for some people in some situations, but not on her.
she's not hot here. if she wants to get the publicity for something crazy, she's getting it. if she wants to get positive publicity and increase her earnings power - making people say "ikk" is an interesting strategy.
Man that is an awesome picture of Shannon
She looks super fit, powerful and full of confidence

Fixed it for you.
Even without the lipstick question, her body composition is far more muscular this year. One could argue its a heavy focus upper body strength training... or one could wonder....

Even with my lack of intelligence, scrawny body and off putting personality I still can't seem to attract anyone ....
There. I fixed your post for you!
Just look at the arms / muscular build here in 2012 vs now. With or without lipstick, there's some serious body composition changes here.
I wonder if the lipstick is to distract from the muscle mass changes? Get everyone taking about her lips and ignore the other changes.

This is such a crazy accusation. She is running well and winning races, she is probably fitter than she was before.
She has been training with Salazar now who, as it is well known, encourages his athletes to have muscle behind them. And Salazar has discussed this before in interviews.
What other pointless and baseless arguments would people like to bring up?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
