I've been dealing with some sort of arrhythmia for about a year now. I finally decided to do something about after the frequency of the episodes jumped from 1/month to 1-2/wk. I'm going in for a treadmill stress test tomorrow, however I am not sure if I will get a positive result, since my episodes are usually brought on by very short, intense efforts, i.e. sprints or after 800m races. I have never gone into an episode doing tempo runs/longer races.
For those of you with experience, how did you get diagnosed, and what treatment options did you pursue? I know I could initiate an episode pretty quick if I run some fast 200's/300's.
For me an episode usually goes like this: I run some fast intervals, during the recovery period, my hr begins to return to normal after 1-2min, then I start to get some palpitations until it "catches" and my hr shoots up to 200+ bpm with a weak pulse. The episodes usually last about 5-10min, I usually feel like I'm going to pass out (I haven't yet), then I get some palpitations again and then my hr goes back to normal.
For what it's worth, I'm 22, male, as of this season I've had to cancel about half of my interval workouts half way through because of going into an episode. I've never had a problem in races because the episodes don't start until after I'm finished.
