If a 16 year old male runner runs 600m in 1:37 off no training and no sports, is this an indication of a potential in running?

I don't believe you.
A sixteen year old male who hasn't been active in some activity simply can't do this.
Yes you could possibly run as a walk on at D2 or D3.
absolutely. IF the kid could run it in 2 minutes without sports and training it would still be impressive.
Just from that time with no training and sports background indicates absolute sub 13:30 potential. But idk its hard to believe.
Ever heard of talent bro???!

Yes, but I have also heard of physiology.
Maybe he's one of these kids who always ran or cycled everywhere he went. Just that he was never interested in doing any organized sports?
One thiong - which isn't relevant to this topic. I DO WISH this website would cut down on the number of ads it's been including. Time taken between opening up different threads ends up wearing down battery on my iPad as well as being a nuisance!

I am fine if that is the case but then the OP should have clarified that he never participated in "organized" sports.
There is a huge difference.
And I stand by my claim that a 16 year old male runner who hasn't engaged in any sports his entire life can't run a 600 in 1:37 off the couch.
I'm sure that kid did not come right from the couch to run a 1:37. He would have to be out of his mind to run a 1:37 with no prior training or sports participation in any way.
Minimal potential, but some. That is like 2:09 for 800 pace. If it was 1:27 for 600 then you would have something.
Are you okay in the head?
clearly talented...why would one ask such an obvious question?
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
