Shouldn't employers just hire those who are best for the job. Just because they served in the armed services that SHOULD NOT give them an unfair advantage!

It's not N unfair advantage. They put their lives on the line to protect us.
republicans would hate that idea. the vast, vast majority of reptard leaders were draft dodging cowards
Their choice for which they got paid. Most did not see action, but even for the ones who did, they fought for people to have rights and equality. Affirmative action and false systems to give vets advantages over nonvets is not equality. Employers should just pick the best person for the job.You wouldn't give vets two votes would you? No it wouldn't be fair.

Clinton and Obama are both cowards that never served a single day in the military.
Of course not!

Same with elections. No extra votes for being in the military. One person one vote, even if you vote for a veteran.
Military experience is a desirable trait for prospective employers.

There are many experiences that are desirable traits for employers. You are completely missing the point. Some like Obama, think you should hire vets over nonvets because they "served the country" Many chose to serve because of limited options. Many served out of a sense of duty.
But good economics indicate that you should just hire the best person.
So please don't give vets any unfair advantage. (I know that not politically correct to say, but its true!)
I think vets trying to become cops and firemen have a big advantage at landing a job, and it probably helps with certain trades as well. But I think for many jobs there's not a lot of affirmative action for vets. In fact, being a vet is probably a negative if you're trying to become a cubicle warrior.

Veterans already receive preference for many government jobs. The Postal Service has a whole list of preference rules for vets, and widows and mothers of deceased or disabled vets.
Like college admission, hiring for employment isn't quite a meritocracy anyway.
It was my experience as a Vietnam vet that when I came back off active duty, the libtard draft dodgers feeding at the government trough always found ways to avoid giving veterans the job preference that government statutes required them to do.
Well, the great majority of US military jobs are a IT guys, cooks, and truuck drives. The percentage of US personnel trained to shoot, stab, choke, the terrorists face to face:
Coast Guard less than 0.01%
Air Force less than 0.1%
Navy less that 1%
Army approximately 15%
Marines 100%
We must ensure veterans have the medical treatment they need - along with their retirement and pension benefits. And we must respect and honor our veterans.
I fear, though, that we are creating two classes of people - veterans and non-veterans.
Here in NY, local municipalities are already cutting property taxes specifically for veterans. And the GOP Congress voted to exempt Vets from the employer mandate in Obamacare, putting non-veterans at a competitive disadvantage when applying for jobs.
That's wrong. And anyone with an impartial mind will recognize that fact.

really, the list is endless of reptard chickenhawks who are too cowardly to serve their country. The total amount of time that reptard leadership has spent serving their country is zero, but they have unlimited time to hate America and hate Jesus.
Great post, with FACTS. Who was the last Republican congressman or senator who actually served in any kind of combat conditions? And these are the guys who get us into Afghanastan and Iraq? Yes, coward and draft dodgers is a good description for these folks.
The situation between Veterans and non-veterans was different after WWII, Korea and Vietnam. During those wars, most of the combat troops were drafted into service and had no say about putting their lives on the line. After giving years of their young lives, most of those "HEROES" were thrown into a job force suffering from recessions caused by the end of the wars and deserved an "edge" in finding work...so military preferences were in order. I am not so certain that veterans from today's all-volunteer military should be given the same edge. In other words, today they have a choice...in the past they had no choice but to go into war.
Not true Buchanan tried to get in, but they did not let him due to an irregular heartbeat for which he still wears a pacemaker to this day.
It is not fair to call someone a draft dodging coward because they were medically disqualified, I am sensitive to this as I was disqualified because I was in a mental hospital 7 times ranging from 3 weeks to 8 months.
I still love the USA and all the great heroes it has produced, one of my favorite songs is Ray Charles rendition of America the beautiful.
In my experience you should definitely hire a vet if you want an employee who will constantly show up late, not work very hard, and tell you stories about how great it was being in the military.
Only infantry MOS soldiers should receive special considerations. The rest just sat around in a chair and and played Xbox.
If you joined at 18 and served 20 yrs you enter the civilian job force at age 38. Not the best circumstances. A lot of vets end up on post as civilian contractors.
