What PR's would you need to be admitted to Stanford based on running, assuming your grades are average for Stanford applyers?

Curious bc im a freshman and its my dream to go there, so i need to know what my goals should be
I mean if you're running a 4:15 you could probably walk on, you'd have to be under 4:10 to get recruited id say
When you say "average" Stanford grades, please be aware that this means a near-perfect GPA, standardized test scores in at least the 95th percentile, and tons of extra-curriculars. Assuming that you meet this criteria, then sub-4:10 or sub-9:05 might do the trick.

I meant average person applying, not being admitted. My grades probably wont be as good as what you said, so ill need running to get in.
4:08 for guys
4:42 for the ladies

This guy was a walk on:

Unless I'm mistaken, above kid was not a walk-on, but was not highly recruited at all, and certainly doesn't have a scholarship.
I really doubt anyone from St Albans was a walk-on.
It is more likely that his family gave Stanford a building than he was a walk-on.
When I was looking at colleges I got a sheet from Colorado that had the recruiting times listed. I bet I actually still have it upstairs ... but I can't really remember them. This was just for recruiting - it didn't say you'd get a full scholarship or anything like that. Although they do give out scholarships once you make the team.
I believe the 1500 time was something like 3:52. (Which Tai the preppy from Stanford did, going 3:51.) The 800 was also in the neighborhood of 1:52-53. 5k ... I can't really remember, but low 15's I'm sure. There might have also been something about XC regional qualifying but I might be making that up.
I think the Stanford ones would be somewhat more relaxed, considering that the admissions standards are so much higher. Every school has different things they're looking for, and if you're on the border of getting in it can be tough to distinguish yourself.
Tai, for example, is an eagle scout, which is basically every extra-curricular activity, and also a singer. I was nothing special (Nationals qualifier for Mile, 3:58 PR) but I did get good grades at a private school. I ended up at an Ivy, so no scholarship.

Your goal should be to graduate valedectorian with a high GPA and high SAT score. This is under your control. Running, probably not.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
