Carve the turkey, mash the potatoes and select the wine......that's basically it.
(And help clean up afterwards)

I go Turkey hunting.
In my house, we do the cooking.
WE mash the potatoes
WE mash the yams
We mash the rutabagas (yes we do mashed rutabagas for thanksgiving)
MAYBE the wife/mom does the succotash
WE cook the turkey
WE make the gravy
WE make the cranberry sauce
MAYBE the wife/mom puts the olives in the dishes out on the table
MAYBE the wife/mom makes the pies
MAYBE the wife/mom makes the rolls
Yeah, so the men in the family usually do the brunt of the work.
I normally do those things after getting an age group prize in a local turkey trot that awards PUMPKIN PIES instead of medals. So I basically cook a pie, too.
And while most everything is cooking we watch the parades, the national dog show, Miracle on 34th street, etc.
Man, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.
I'll be buying the fruit platter
You reminded me!
Wife/mom makes the dip/veggie platter
We make the mushrooms baked in butter. OOOOOH NO that makes me hungry all over again.
Adjusting my crotch, yelling at the TV and belching at the table.
Smart guy, you and your mom don't let your wife do anything by herself!

This year, with the kids away, Thanksgiving will be at my mother-in-law's in Philadelphia. I'll buy some season-appropriate chocolate thingie from Jacques Torres, I guess, and they might let me set the table, but that'll most likely be it.
I don't particularly enjoy carving the bird (though Al Gore's Internets have made that easier than before), but they may ask me to do that, too.
Is this the only male on letsrun that cooks on thanksgiving?

I forgot to mention. I'm proud! I thought more runners would embrace traditionally female activities. They are more macho than I thought.
I out on BIB when eating turkey so I do not get grayvey on my DIAPERS.
If we have company over, I offer each guest a beer or other drink. I handle the bottle opener. That's about it. Handling food is women's work - I don't get involved in that.

I'll be honest. I thought there would be more.
I'll be making the following feast while my girlfriend relaxes with her favorite bourbon cocktails: Butternut squash soup, mixed greens with bacon-wrapped figs, classic roast turkey with wild rice chestnut dressing, buttermilk corn bread, maple-glazed carrots, green beans with pecans, broccoli with bread crumbs, home made cranberry sauce with cinnamon cider, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and a ginger-pear torte.
Do you ever wonder why she hasn't asked for your hand in marriage yet?She never helps you huh? Man someone needs to explain how things work to you. You might be in for a hurtin.

No, she's dead set on finding a man with domestic sensibility and flair. She thinks I look sexy in an apron- should be a good night for me!

You obviously do all the hard work trying to win the Most Supercilious Wanker in America award as well. Good for you.
My spouse will be on call that day, hopefully we will be able to enjoy a nice turkey meal w/o being interrupted...:)
Making the turkey, gravy and whatever else the family can't handle themselves while getting blitzed on Buffalo Trace. My day will be: get up, drink some coffee, take some scalps at the local 5k, eat some donuts, start drinking, watch football, make food, eat food, continue drinking, maybe see a movie if I have time for it all.
Dude, REALLY dude? You are her servant all Thanksgiving while she drinks and does nothing and you think this will end well for you?Man she will dump you for the first ape that treats her like a tramp and you will never see it coming.Get rid of the apron and the skirt and just man up. If she respected you she would never treat you so poorly.
