I've taken to frying eggs because boiling them is too easy.
He says this because he probably will be slow as sh!t.
Granted, he is in his 60s so a 30:00 5k will be understandable.

I mean how ridiculous would it be if I said this:
800m race is way too short, so I won't do it.
Every race (no matter the distance) is difficult to train for and get good at.
Does he ever go in one of his restaurants? He's always on bloody TV.

He's 47
The article makes it sounds like his marathon PR is 3:30:14. No wonder he thinks that running is easy… 8:00 pace? Psssh.
His PR is 3:36-ish in his mid-forties. He finished Kona in 14:04:**
Running 5 km is easy. Running 5 km fast is hard.
Barely less than 3 hours under the time limit
Lots of people think like this.
I have to run a marathon, no 100 marathons, no ultra marathons, everything else is too easy. It would be better if they tried to run faster instead, but that might actually be difficult, so they won't do that!

He ran his first marathon in 4:26, so he's taken 50 minutes off his PR. What does that translate to in Ironmans?

You cannot compare the two. Marathons are way too easy.
I can't even find a record of him doing a 5km race
Sounds like training is his escape and time to get away and training puts him in a better mental state. Sounds like he has fun with it and and tries to see what he can do with his limited time training and enjoys longer events. Good for him. He should be the role model for the tons of obese Americans.

I'm glad he's encouraging running long or whatever, but the idea of any distance being "easy" is hilarious. Like bro, the object of sport is not to finish, it is to win.

As the guy above said, he's slower than shit. I don't think you'll hear of Rupp doing triathlons because 5000 is too easy...or Usain Bolt running an 800 because 400s don't hurt enough.

Only one person wins.
The idea of most runners or athletes is gaining a sense of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming, it isn't winning some medal because someone faster didn't happen to show up to race.
Agreed

He's not sticking to self satisfaction though is he. He can't brag about how fast is is so like a lot of people has to brag about how far he can go.
You would think he does a lot of running and racing as well, check out power of 10 he is conspicuous by his absence.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
