I'm getting faster (5k-marathon) and it's really hard to tell what is for actual runners and what is for hobbyjoggers. I never ran in college so I don't know many actual runners.
The following are my assumptions. Please correct any inaccuracies. Note that 'most' implies this is the norm and that 'some' implies that 'some' do not.
Pretty much all runners have a GPS watch
Pretty much all runners run year-round
Pretty much all runners do some form of periodization
Most runners wear trainers ~90% of the time
Most runners race in flats
Most runners rotate shoes
Most runners race ~5-20 times a year
Most runners take in calories on runs over 16 miles
Most runners take in water before during and after a workout
Most runners run 2-3 days of quality running per week
Some runners use a foam roller
Some runners use a heart rate monitor
Some runners use treadmills
Some runners follow professional running
Some runners run 7 days a week
Some runners do dynamic stretching
Only hobbyjoggers wear compression socks
Only hobbyjoggers do static stretching
Only hobbyjoggers carry extra weight
