I bought my first automatic dress watch last year. It was a Tag Heur, I think it cost ~$4k or maybe a little less. It is nice, I like it. Since I bought that watch I've become more interested in automatic watches. I was thinking about buying a Patek Philippe Nautilus as a less dressy watch to wear from time to time. The particular watch I'm considering is $38k. It is an insane amount of money for a watch. But, given the screen name I've chosen for this posting, you can guess I can afford it no problem. My co-workers generally wear watches like Omega or maybe Rolex, many do not wear watches at all or wear very cheap watches. My Patek would be an outlier, and it could possibly probably draw unwanted attention if I did wear it to work. That being said, I've looked at a lot of watches recently, and this particular one stands out by a margin. Still, I'm having a difficult time pulling the trigger because it seems wasteful.
So, I thought I would ask letsrun.com: Under what circumstances would you buy a $40k watch?
