10k working down to 5k I'd think
My guess was 5k pace for 24 reps and being able to run faster on the last 400m

400m pace
I could probably do 8k pace. Some workout warriors could probably manage 5k pace or close to it.
Are you guys speed or distance oriented? I'm endurance oriented and to me this workout would be 5k pace or faster even if it is 25 laps... I'm having an argument with a good friend about this and so far he's winning hehe
Anyone else think differently??

What happens if you run every workout at max effort? If you take easy days easy and recover well is this the best way to train?
Not every workout, this would be at the end of a build up. It's good to push a goal pace in training. Just not all the time. Typical build ups are 80% or so effort training weeks for quite a few weeks, and easy days of course.
Im surprised no one so far thinks they can run 5k pace or faster for this workout... looks like Im loosing a bet and paying the beer tonight
You're right 5k pace or faster for the average pace. Start at target 10k pace and gradually speed up.
We used to do 20 x 400m at just faster than 5k pace w/ 60s recovery 1-2 times during XC season on my college team. It was just another workout, a bit challenging toward the end but very much sub-maximal effort. No one ever fell way off pace or struggled to finish.
As such, I would guess your workout could be done at or JUST over 3k pace. With short workbouts and 12 minutes of recovery built in, 5k pace should be a gimme for a fit runner doing your workout.
