I've been offered a gig coaching a pretty low-achieving varsity xc girls squad starting in two week. I've only ever coached public school boys and co-ed teams. This is a private girls school where students come from privileged and wealthy backgrounds. And when I say privileged, I mean PRIVILEGED. These girls come from families with private jets in which they fly to private islands in Maine, the Caribbean, etc. They are decked out in J Crew and Abercrombie. They have $150/hr private tutors and so on and so forth.
The school is by no means an athletic powerhouse. As near as I can tell, sports are for decorating a resume for Ivy League schools and that's about it. Still the AD is determined to build the team.
I feel like this could be a good character-building experience or way more stress than it's worth. Anyone have experience coaching this demographic and would care to share?
