Iowa code states a HS runner can't race a college runner (sometimes). This code is very limiting. Recently, an athlete here ran in the open section of a collegiate meet to challenge herself and work toward a scholarship. She became ineligible by doing that. As 'punishment' the Iowa State Athletic Union stripped her team of their state track title. It was asked that the consequences be given to her alone, not the team but the Athletic Union refused. She is now being bullied and harassed by her peers and adults in the community. This punishment doesn't fit the 'crime'. Isn't it time for Iowa to change their old-school codes? Haven't many states already done so?
