Running Economy Survey - Help!

Hey, all. If you are a coach or an experienced distance runner or triathlete, your response to the following university-approved survey would be very helpful. I think you will find the second interactive video portion(on second page)to be somewhat fun. All responses are 100% anonymous and strictly used to add to the scientific literature.

appreciate you doing research.

instead of the videos, i'd rather you just tell me...

1) approximate age and lifetime miles of the runner

2) bodyfat percentage

otherwise watching hobby joggers run seems pointless.

I would encourage the letsrun regulars to check out the link. it's actually pretty cool.

If it's possible, DocRun, could you still get the body fat percentage of the runners in those videos? Or was it too long ago? That would be interesting to see how people's responses are in terms of accuracy when you scale their economy to lean mass only. I would assume the two bigger guys' economy would jump up considerably.

GREAT comment and thank you.

I do have the BF% of each of the runners. You are certainly correct in that one could scale the economy based on body fatness, but the runner still has to carry around the fat when he runs. Thus, his economy is what it is in absolute terms. In relative terms, it could be slightly different.

However, research seems to suggest the distribution of fat is just as important as the amount of body fat (given a relatively similar body fat%).

Anyhow, keep the ideas coming. Hopefully it will lead to a future research idea!
