Any thoughts on strapless heart rate monitors that provide continuous data (not the ones that are "on demand" meaning you need to press a button to get your heart rate).

Strapless? Sounds sexy!
I have a Tomtom and it works great unless it´s raining.
My Adidas MiCoach Smart Run Watch is awesome, but pricey
My MIO alpha ($150 about 9 months ago) is a little glitchy. Occasionally underreads/overreads for a few minutes before rectifying. Love the lack of strap.
I got the TomTom, and it sadly didn't work for me. I would get a reading for about 15 minutes, and then it just dropped out. Most people seem to have no trouble, but there are definitely some people for whom it doesn't work very well. I worked with customer support for a while before returning it. It seems now that they've determined that some of the watches had defective sensors, and most people have reported good results with the replacement watches.
I have to say that I REALLY liked the TomTom watch except for the HR problem. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the top of the line Garmins. For example, you can't program complex interval workouts. That doesn't bother me though because, like most serious runners, I'm pretty used to having my workout memorized and just hitting the lap button on my Timex, so I just did workouts with the TomTom manually. It also uses both GPS and Glonass for better accuracy, it precaches satellite locations for a fast acquisition, and it has a built-in accelerometer (which is supposed to tell you pace indoors, which it doesn't do very well, but it does tell you cadence). I found that the GPS was extraordinarily accurate. Totally puts the Garmin 220/620 to shame. The multisport version also has a nice cycling mode, which, while not robust enough to satisfy hardcore cyclists, is great for a runner who occasionally rides.

This is not a strapless device from what I can see. It has a strap. That's what I am trying to avoid.

Yeah that one's a strap-on.

Can you give an example of a strapless one?
The ones that read heart rate through your wrist tend to not be as good.
DCrainmake didn't have much of a problem with this wrist one.
How are you utilizing HR in your training? Or is this simply an additional useless gadget you want?

There is a TomTom cardio watch that has strapless HR and GPS and it's like $270 bucks.
