"How did I know you ran a 4:30 mile in high school? That's easy. Everyone ran a 4:30 mile in high school." - Frank Shorter
------
Shorter was saying this to other elites at the time, how those that became pro ran a 4:30 in HS then progressed much more in College.
This seems to be less and less true of professionals today, very few were 'slow' in high school, by the arrogance of many LRC'ers I've seen many say they consider a 4:30 in HS is 'slow' or 'not that great'.
How is it that it is almost becoming a prerequisite to being a professional, or at least very very fast in College, that you also have to be great in HS? - Rupp, Centro, Ritz, Ed Ches, Lalang, Lomong, even Leer was a State champ, etc, etc
Who are some of the recent greats that actually ran a 4:30 in High School?
