He keeps saying those words. I do not think they mean what he thinks they mean.

This one has to go down as a classic. Can't wait for eharmony to come out of his hole. Rupp has cemented himself as perhaps the greatest American distance runner. When he breaks the American Marathon record, even the haters will shut up.
I would pay to see the reaction of Solinsky and Bumbalough and Bairu and the rest of the schumacher crew after witnessing this eRUPPtion of awesomeness.
well, I will give you this one. didn't expect this one.wel , wrote:

friday he will run 27.12.22
Idiot!
This thread reminded of the many Clavin predictions. Has there ever been one correct "RUPP will not ..." prediction? Seems like these threads guarantee Rupp success.

vert nailed it. what he's pissed about is that rupp could have gone so much faster and nailed his 2630 on the head.the reality is that rupp was coming off a so so race and he's been fooling around with personal stuff, so he was not super confident and did not know for sure where he was at.actually, all considered, today was not the best rupp there is and if he can hold it together, this could be the year when the potential times are documented in actual races.

You might stick with predicting what day of the week it is.

Pathetic, SMJO.
most timid race i have seen in 20+y
I don' think the "timid" would be the best characterization of this race, i think "thoughtful" or "calculated" would be better. First, i'll grant you the conceit that there even is such thing as a "timid" race that results in a win and national record. I would characterize a timid race as sticking like glue to the pacer/leaders for 9900m and then using a superior finishing kick to win. Everyone in the field, knew Rupp had the best kick and this would have been the easiest timid approach.
What was not timid about this race? Well, he didn't sit and kick, he went with 850m to go, which is fairly risky because once you make your push, it's tough to push again. Someone else could have sat on his shoulder and tried to blast past him at the end. However Rupp caught them all by surprise such that no one could stick with him. You can't surprise someone like that by being timid. He also had to be at the front to clear backmarkers for 2 laps. I would also suggest his burst at 1k to catch the lead pack was not timorous, showing wisdom and confidence. Instead he could have slowly/timidly drifted onto the lead pack.
Consider also the context of the race: his last 5k race was sub-standard, he's had personal issues to deal with, sleeping mostly at the hospital the last month, his wife is in the hospital and can't even be there to support him, and he hasn't raced the 10 for a long time and it's early in the season. With that mindset it would have been easier to timidly sit and kick from 200m rather than risk losing an IAAF race and the AR? Consider say, Bekele's Half win over Farah and Geb. He feigns lack-of-fitness and then blows by Farah at the end. Is that timid, or clever?
In the end i believe he ran his last 1k faster than Bekele's recording setting 10 (2:32.44 for Bekele, 2:29.34 for Tanui, Rupp right behind). Not a timid finish. I think he's starting to break out of metronomic reputation.
Was this a totally ballsy gun to tape win? No. Did he have a better time in him? Most likely. Time will tell, and that's been Salazar's approach, slow and steady with a dash of record breaking thrown in. It's proven to be an effective approach, timid or not.
Salazar thinks Rupp is in 26:35 shape. From the IAAF article on the race.
"Looking at how he ran, I think in the ideal race and circumstances he can run 10 seconds faster than he did tonight."
Interesting, and i'd like to know what Rupp thinks!
well, he was going about 2:08-9 pace/800m for much of the race and then he ran the last 800m in 1:57, so it is entirely reasonable to think that with a faster pace or with him pushing on his own from considerably farther out (the last time he did that in a fast 10 was against Solinsky probably), he could have run more like 63s in the second half of the race, which would have gotten him close to 26:30.
suck it a$$ hole... eventually rupp will be the best american born distance runner ever.
LOLOLOLOL ALL THE HATERS COMING OUT NOW.
Well guess what I was rockin the paradise this weekend with Styx, Foreigner and Journey. Got to meet Journey and Foreigner. Yall were in moms basement.
Rupp's time don't change anything. This only proves what I've been saying that he's a cheater.
