Washington State University, A.D. Bill Moos with the assistance of Ann McCoy has announced that Wayne Phipps (formerly of University of Idaho aka next door red-head step child) will become the new Director of XC/Track & Field.
This comes on the heels of the Pac-12 Championships that were hosted at WSU the past two weeks and a completely embarrassing performance by the host school Cougars.
Wayne Phipps might have a list longer than the NSA tapped phones for WAC titles, but the WAC conference winners couldn't win many large state HS state championships. So now Phipps will be in charge of a program with the hardest recruiting battles in the entire country, smallest budget, and overshadowed by everyone but University of Utah (no men's team, and barely a women's team) to try and get the program into even a Top 5 finish at conference championships?
Many alumni were fearing this outcome and now it has become a reality. Phipps loses the recruiting battle to WSU already, how is he going to elevate the program he can't beat to even hold a candle to UCLA, Cal, and Colorado who already just battle it out for the 3-6th spots????
THIS IS A JOKE, athletic department should be ashamed for dropping the ball for months already with James Li (Arizona) and now settle for this?
