It amazes me that we get the 'racist' label all the time.
We go out of our way to promote the top KAfrican runners in the world. We just travelled to Jamaica to promote the top sprinters there even though we have stats showing people click on articles about US distance runners.
We delete thousands of racist posts each year and yet somehow get labelled as racists for what other people post on the messageboard.
As for Cornell, I guess you don't realize I was a key part of the most successful run in a men's NCAA sport in the history of the Ivy League.
See your point, sort of. Your mods can't delete every thread and every egregious post, because there are so many and they crop up like weeds. It's pervasive to the point that it almost seems like it's condoned. Probably not true but there are times when you wonder.
Realize you guys like the Wild West atmosphere of complete anonymity without accountability, but we see the downside with libelous claims and racism. When these become commonplace then the site does lose credibility.
Registration with zero tolerance (delete threads and ban perpetrators) would cure a lot of it, probably 90-95%. And you could still have anonymity.
That's not perfect, our newspaper had that. Racist comments were immediately taken out. But there was still a lot of blowhardism and bullying. e.g., a cyclist gets hit by a car and there'd be 300 messages applauding the driver and sometimes threats to people who said they preferred to cycle to work or for exercise. So their solution is to link all comments to Facebook accounts. That shut up everyone.
You probably don't want that, but if you really want to clean up this site then some form of registration and accountability are needed.
