Coming from a mid-level D1 school, it seems that most of my teammates who used to run 10-14 miles everyday for 4-5 years have either stopped completely or hardly run ever, kind of like once in a blue moon. Why do you think so many competitive runners never get out there and run some miles, even at an easy pace, after competing in college? I understand the epiphany many have that they will never have the structured support of a coach, trainer, team, university, etc. and may never PR again, but I have found that I still enjoy running an hour everyday, give or take 15 minutes, for the simple reason that it has become ingrained into my body, and not training seems to derail and offset my diet, mood, and sleep patterns.
Any guys out there still running 5-10 miles a day for fun and just enjoying it? Did you need to have a much needed respite from running after graduation for a few months years?
