A thought popped into my head after browsing the boards and reading all the hate posts on various athletes:
Name an elite runner out there today that everyone likes (or at least the vast majority of fans. I realize "everyone" is a powerful word).
I personally cannot think of ANYONE, male or female, that does not receive some sort of negative feedback from fans, fellow athlete, or the media. Whether it be because of their attitude/personality, racing tactics, or doping accusations, even the "nicest" of elite runners get backlash. Someone like Mo Farah would initially seem like an ideal hero for us fans, but because of his association with Sleazy Sal, he gets a bad rep.
I am not intending to make this a thread to bash all the haters here on Letsrun. We all have runners that we dislike and like. Hell, I've posted about elites that I am not fond of. There are always going to be critics for any atheltics and, quite frankly, I think it helps in a way.
Another question: Is there any runners from history that the majority of people supported?
