There is a tendency to romanticize the "glory" days of yore, but CT produces a crop of new studs year after year.
In the collegiate ranks, we've got guys like Chris Bendsten (Princeton, by way of Wolcott), John Raneri (UNC, by way of New Fairfield), and Connor Rog (UVA, by way of Fairfield Prep) flying the flag. Recent grads include Henry Wynne (UVA/Staples), Jake Feinstein (Providence College/Newtown), Logan Fulton (Loyola Marymount/Joel Barlow), etc.
Ostberg, Alvarado, and the Ridgefield boys are all tearing it up at the present. There is no current lack of talent in the state. We nutmeggers have reason to be proud.
What really tears at the heartstrings, though, are the underwhelming college careers of several CT high school stars. Ahearn is a prime example: he came from a strong Danbury background, but never amounted to much at Georgetown. Levene, Terry, Fitzsimons, and Vess didn't fare much better.
Regardless of their respective fates, I maintain the highest respect for each the aforementioned athletes. They all contributed to the lore of CT distance running.
