Yes, I'm also most impressed with the third American in the race!
/s
so the old man and the old boy beat the young ingenue.. the past is still here.
Did anyone think it was weird how Rupp looked over his shoulder with about 280 to go? It was his inside shoulder which is really weird.

What do you think he was doing?
At the time I was thinking Rupp's thought process was, "A lot of guys are coming by. Are any of Jerry's guys still around?" Let's be honest, just as a teammate hates losing to another teammates in college cross country, there is no way he wanted to be beaten by another white guy let alone one from the rival group.
That was what I was thinking as the race was actually taking place but maybe my thoughts are insensical as why do you look over your inside shoulder?
Any ideas?
I thought Rupp looked great but was cruelly reminded it's all about the last lap at this level.

I won't speculate as to what he was thinking, that'd be pointless. But I also thought he was looking good, very good, until maybe 300m to go. Then he looked tired and worn.
Not surprised at all by Jager's performance. He ran right about where I had him. Next year will be his chance to break 8:00 in the steeple (and 13:00) if he can stay healthy.
Usually he does that when somebody clips his heel.
Maybe Rupp is tired from actually racing this season?

Jager is the future.
Rupp needs speed work.
Lagat has been caught using EPO already. Hands down cheat. Politics got him off. No respect to the aging cheat.
From that picture he is clearly checking out the field events. TV coverage sucks...

Could well be ....
here's the video (last lap) .. it happens at about 1:03 in the clip.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjkp-MO8W1EAmazing how much distance Alamirew, Lagat and Geb-w put on the rest of the field in the last 130m. Rupp ran a nice time, and did well against that field, but the top 3 stomped that last 200m.

So he's tired from doing what he was supposed to be doing and gets paid boatloads of money to do?

Why on Earth do you post on these forums? Haven't you heard the adage "better to stay silent and let people think you're an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"?
Something for you to seriously dwell on before you post again.

Based a Jager's 3K and SC PRs his 5K PR is now about where it should be. This was an ok race for Rupp, which is about how his outdoor season has been going, but Rupp at the top of his game would have been well ahead of Jager and battling for the win.

Doubtful. Rupp's just not quite at that level yet. Even on his best day. I'm a fan, but I'm honest.
Doubtful. Nike Oregon Project guys go for the win at DL meets and major championships. Schumacher guys just try to beat Oregon Project guys.

Holy cow, it's OKAY! Rojo is not dumb. He's human, makes an error from time to time. No where on this site has Robert Johnson announced that he is the most perfect person in the world. He made a mistake...
props to Rupp for racing quite a bit over the spring/summer, but you know thinking ahead to 2014 that he and AlSal may consider bringing him along a little more slowly/not striking if the iron is hot in Jan./Feb. by going for fast times indoors. that said, hard to believe a fast mile & 3K indoors would be that detrimental to summer racing. but maybe the training done to run those times was a bit too much too soon and left Rupp a little low on energy this summer. he just never looked super-sharp like he did @ 2012 OTs/2012 OGs/indoors. you know Rupp will be running for some redemption next summer, can't wait...

Great run for Jager. He beat Koech, who was not as good as he was in 2012, but still a major scalp.
I note also that Rupp was ahead of Olympic medalist Longosiwa. So the U.S. guys are among the best.
Lagat a surprise here, but watching the race you could see him in the mix as the laps wore on and you knew he'd have it!
For the future, it will be great to see Jager develop, hopefully medal in the steeple, but for sure run fast.
As for Rupp, I hope he can adjust his next off season training cycle and bring back those 53 second last laps he showed in 2012. Still think the best is yet to come for him.

Except that Rupp has never shown himself to be much better than this in a 5k. Think about it, Ritz, Solinsky and Teg all have better 5k times.
He's great, and I think he'll be solid on the roads one day too, but he's not medal caliber 5k runner.
