Down goes the Dow

I didn't double down. Looks like the sell might be on Tuesday, outside my 3-day window. I might wait.

lol, gold just took a dump. Glad I'm not in that.

nice call on teh USD, short term anyway.

hard to see why the dollar would fall, though. what would be a catalyst? strong EM growth? Better than expected european growth? No other region is going to be raising interest rates any time soon, right? So seems to be the dollar is in for a long term rise here.

Well, I doubled down near close yesterday at 134.61, and have sold that block already today at 137.07

Still waiting to get rid of the first block, though, bought at 136.91. Soon, might be within my original 3-day window.

And of course, now, the decision about whether to sell at 137.40 and make only a few cents on the first block and be satisfied with gains from the second block, or to wait until maybe Tuesday...I think I will sell by the end of the day today.

Sold the first block at 137.53, didn't lose anything. Could have done better on this one, all considered, but what I got out of the second block was still worth it. This is part of doing it like this, you can't get greedy. Fortunately I can move enough to make these small moves still worth it.

But again, this could have been done better.

Here's where I don't kick myself. I thought about waiting until today/tomorrow to sell, but I knew that I had already made enough on that trade to make it worthwhile.

This week, there may be another opportunity.

You're bragging about making pennies? After commission and taxes, I wouldn't be surprised if you're in the red.

That last trade made enough, after fees but before taxes, to pay the office rent for the entire year.

That's not brag-worthy stuff, just sensible.

If I was a bragging-type guy, I would have lied and said that I leveraged hugely, and made a killing--which I didn't. Gross is advocating leveraging, but I'm content to work with what I've got.

I am posting these small deals to show that one can in fact time the market in the short term, and that some of us can make enough money doing so, without leveraging...that is, actually realize gains.

You are correct that taxes will take a bite, but the trade was extremely simple, and still well worth it. Of course you need a certain amount to work with, to make this system work. This year, I am well ahead of the markets, well ahead of Gross, well ahead of the industry, and I haven't touched bonds or Forex.

So, you want "to show that you (not 'one') can in fact time the market in the short term."? - - OK, you've got $100,000 (LRC dollars). Over the next 12 months post at least 2 short-term trades each month - always posting FULL DETAILS BEFORE the fact. Hit on 65% of them and grow that $100,000 to $150,000 over the next 12 months and you will be taken seriously.

I will continue to post before the fact, as I have done. Yes, there will be losses. So far this year I have been lucky to not have had any, but no big market hits, either.

Just picked up more DDM at 136.21 with the dow around 17,925

Will sell likely within 2 days, if not, then in a week. I can hold it as long as I want, but will dump it again.

The dow could very well hover at and below the current malaise level for a while, but I don't mind holding it. Of course, I would rather not have it.

to revive an old discussion, why are you messing with the Dow? it's not a good measure of the market. 6 stocks are a full 33% of the index. You could get completely killed if GS and IBM have bad days but the rest of the market does fine.

You'd be better off with a SP500 fund - not perfect, but you are betting huge on GS, IBM, 3M, BA and apple when you mean to be betting on the market.

I'm not interested in the quality of measure, I am interested in the performance of DDM in a vacuum.

I have never used DDM before, really I'm just working some things out, which is why all I'm doing with it is picking some profits off the tops of a frothy performance.

One of these days in the near future your short term investment will turn out to be long term...and with a 50% loss.

Only time will tell.

In fact, I am unlikely to continue playing with DDM and its counterpart for very much longer.
