Oh my, I was so sure that Symmonds had it after he helped box Aman in on the second lap. Friggin awesome race
1:43.33 for aman i think
fantastic race
had goosebumps that whole last lap while ds and ns were 1-2
tough way to end, but silver is pretty decent
THAT SUCKS BALLS.
My manager called me for my annual performance review right AS THE GUN WENT OFF.
I was jumping up and down watching the race while trying to show no emotion over the phone.
That was exhausting.
Duane Solomon was through 4 in about 50.48 I think

IAAF has been up-to-the-second with results:

3 Ayanleh SOULEIMAN DJIBOUTI DJI 1:43.76
4 Marcin LEWANDOWSKI POLAND POL 1:44.08 SB
5 Andrew OSAGIE GREAT BRITAIN & N.I. GBR 1:44.36 SB
6 Duane SOLOMON UNITED STATES USA 1:44.42
7 Pierre-Ambroise BOSSE FRANCE FRA 1:44.79
8 Abdulaziz Ladan MOHAMMED SAUDI ARABIA KSA 1:46.57
EXCELLENT RACE! Way to shoot for the stars Symmonds! He was trusting his fitness was their in the final 100m but Aman had some great legs.
It looked like Symmonds came through in the high 1:43 range. I think Aman was 1:43:33 if I saw the board correctly. During the race I thought how odd it was to see Symmonds in 2nd at the bell. I don't think I had ever seen him in that position at that point before.
Splits 200: 23:?? ( i would like to say 23:52 but I could be wrong)
400: 50:?? Solomon with Symmonds on his shoulder.
600: ??:?? Solomon with Symmonds on his shoulder.
Symmonds looked disappointed as he crossed the line.
Proud of Nick and Duane for going for it. Great knowing the US is competitive in the 8.

50.28 officially.
That is too bad that Solomon could not also get a medal.
I voted for Aman, would rather have gotten it wrong.
I didn't have many worries about Symmonds confidence.
Solomon taking the lead, as he always does, was predictable and made him a likely sacrificial lamb ala Johnny Gray and KD Robinson styles of racing.
I didn't think Symmonds would go out and stay in back as he used to do. I figured the only way he would under perform was if he got too agressive...
That first 200 in under 24 doomed him.
He thought the title was his to go out and take and go out and get it and the way was to let Solomon lead.
Nope.
He'll be kicking himself for a long time after this.
His splits should tell the story.
Paris Hilton doesn't date losers. 2nd place not good enough, Nick.

This is a link that MacAfee doesn't know about and is not blocked at my work:

1. Why are you posting your diary here? As if it matters that you assumed and thought what was obvious to everyone.
2. See 1
3. "He thought the title was his to go out and take and go out and get it and the way was to let Solomon lead. "
Nice grammar!
4. Great run by Nick, though racing. Aman simply has a great last 100m, and showed that today as usual.
5. Too much Igloi and too little endurance for Solomon?
6. Great by Soleyman!

Did Symmonds make his move at 400m too early? Or did he run it right.
I think he ran it right. Hindsight might always show a small tweak here or there, but at the time I think he made the right move. He was still moving the last 50m and put ground on everyone but Aman. In that scenario, it is hard to question his strategy.

Honestly, what hell are you talking about? Nothing doomed him, the title was not his to go out and take, and he won't be kicking himself for anything. Symmonds just ran 1:43.55 in a championship final and got second. He was beaten by the pre-race favorite, a guy whose PR is about a half-second faster than Nick's. I know he wanted to win, but he's going to be pretty damn happy with his first-ever championship silver, too.
Between this and people second-guessing Mary Cain's tactics, it's a wonder all of these elite athletes don't just fire their coaches and ask the Letsrun hivemind advise them on tactics.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
