When asked about the rest of the season he wants a 15 in monaco and an 8 in London, but I was shocked he thinks he can run such a nice 1500. Thoughts?

He ran 3:36.0 early season last year. He then lowered his 800m PR to 1:42.95 and did more strength work - not outlandish.
He will not run that fast with his racing tactics. It doesn't work in the 1,500.

i've heard this from so many people last summer after london: if he would have went out with the leaders he would have medaled.
none of you guys understand racing...at all. so you're saying he should go out at his 400 meter PR when running an 800 meter race? yup, makes a lot of sense.
stick with the barbies and makeup, kiddo.
For reference of 800 guys moving up Kaki has run 1:42.23 and 3:31.76 so it is not impossible that Symmonds could run 1:42.95 and 3:33. It would put him .72 slower in the 800 and 2.23 slower in the 1500(if he went 3:33.99).
This brings up another topic. Symmonds said in an interview that he believes he will be the best miler in the 800 final. I really doubt that this will be true. There is a very good chance that Makloufi and Kaki will be in that final. Both are more proven milers than Symmonds.
Symmonds is not the miler he thinks he is. He needs to work on that 400 and stick with the 800.

Excellent reasoning to assume he'll use the exact same non-working tactics in the 1500 as he does in the 800.

Well in 6 years of professional racing he hasn't ever used a different tactic in the 800. No reason to think that he would in the 1500.
If he wants to run a 3:32-33, then the winner will have to run a 3:29-30. Symmonds will give the leader 3 seconds at the bell, out kick a lot of people into 5th place, and everyone will think he's a racing genius.
Yo dawg,
Ya cawled me out, dig. Now, the dawg at bag don't get no chow. Dawgz gotta chaze them carz evenz if dey no catchy catchy, dig.
Now get me my makeup.
Dis dawg kaynt spehl.
He's going to crush in the 1500! Less intense, slower competition and built for his kick.
Actually, those tactics do work pretty well in the 1,500. That's how Wheating ran 3:30, and how hordes of runners set PRs in the Diamond League. Sit in the pack with the fastest field the world can offer and hang on for the ride, baby. Nick can go 3:33.

Kaki did it once. He has been a huge failure at every other 1500 he has ever run.

What is the meta message in Symmonds suddenly yammering about the 1500?
It means he's seen the writing on the wall in the 800. He can't reach his dream of an international medal in a world where -- as Robby Andrews put it 1:43 is the new 1:45.
Symmonds figures if another squatty body like Manzano, with a great kick, can nab the silver, then that is what he wants to try.
Symmonds is feeling the heat now from the USA in the 800. So why not move up?
with his speed 3:29 seems realistic.

To be fair, Nick has been talking 1500 for some time.
My thought is, how does a chuncky looking guy with short legs, who looks like Brad Pitt run so damn fast?

Well, Kaki and Aman tried to go with Rudisha in that first lap and look what it got them: they were singed by the pace and ended up with no medals.

Except perhaps that it's a different race
nick symmonds is a 1500 runner! i\'ve been saying this forever. doesn\'t have enough speed for the 800.
