I like what NB is doing. Nike covers a lot of athletes. NB is really plucking
The cream of the crop. Not sure what they did to get Emma but I think
They are clever.

Emma saves major money by not having an agent sign her shoe doeal. For now she says Mark Wetmore will help her get into races. Imagine the confusion when he calls and then leaves a message and they call the actual agent Mark Wetmore back!
Now the NCAA rule book specifically states that a coach can not serve as an agent but I would imagine her coach Wetmore would not take money for this so perhaps he can serve in this roll.
Long term this is a bad move for her as she may come to understand as a good agent can get her a better appearance fee and into races she otherwise might not get in.
Oh, I think a few folks on this site might volunteer to be her husband/agent... I think she might be able to find somebody.
She's been dating Joe Bosshard for awhile now. She'll find an agent and good for her for going outside of the corrupt NIKE circle of sleaze.

Isn't Colorado a Nike school? Nike is going to have to cut the track team's support if they keep sending athletes to New Balance
Hasay will go with Nike/Salazar.
Let them. Wetmore won't care one way or another. Have you seen his office? Have you seen Potts Field? Nike does nothing for Colorado's track program except the bare minimum. Not having NIKE gear will have no effect on his teams. New Balance, adidas, ASICs, Brooks will all line up to sponsor CU athletics. What you have here is F Nike, F USATF and F Phil Knight.

I don't think Nike is sleazy but do think they come
Off as territorial. You sort of need to be in Oregon
or else you are an outsider. That being said I bet
Emma went with NB for other reasons. Great team
of middle distance women. I bet her contract is far
more favorable. Plus she will make all that NB gear
look hot.

That is appropriate because she has excellent balance. She never trips, missteps, overstrides, leans forward or backward, misjudges a hurdle or anything. Her form is eerily good.
Yes.
$85k/yr (without incentives) for 2013-2016. Close to a $500k package, potential for much more with AR performance bonuses and WC Medals. Big pay-off is Rio incentive clause.
All contracts have incentives. So this is silly.
The only reason Emma is not with Nike is Wetmore creates a cult with his best athletes and they would have to join a Nike group (Oregon) if they sign with Nike. She may very well have taken less money to sign new balance.
My guess is you could easily double that number or beyond.......
My friend has a contract for nearly that figure. She is awesome
however nowhere near as accplished as Emma.
Geez she is an Olympian. Not to mention her amazing
looks and body. I think NB ups the ante and gets big
Marketing and sales from this beauty.
Exactly, very bad move not having an agent. An agent, 1) is the main source in getting her into major races, 2)the main source for obtaining endorsements, 3) the main source in her overall racing and travel plans, 4)the main source in advertising her name, 5) is the primary interface between her and the shoe company.
I don't think Mark Wetmore can do all of the above. The "other" Mark Wetmore could.
You forget the investment that NB has placed in Jenny Simpson and Brenda Martinez. Emma is phenomenal, but there are limited resources with a private oompany.
That's a pretty outrageous claim with no merit, but what can we really expect other than spin from an Oregon-based Nike shill. Wetmore has often encouraged his best athletes to seek post-collegiate support elsewhere for nearly his entire career. It's a relatively good point on the agent though. Emma will probably end up finding an agent she can trust which is an oxymoron because they are pretty much all shady, but she is in no rush right now.

I highly doubt she got paid a lot. NB never pays that much. She is a very pretty girl but she will be doing an event that is considered sub par that nobody follows except track fans. And I don't see her running great times in other events or road races.
Emma is 5th all time for the indoor mile, 5th all time for the 1500 and 2nd all time for the steeple. She is the best runner coming out of college this year. She has already competed in a European season twice so in sure getting into races isnt a concern. Don't give agents so much credit.

Do you really think Emma Coburn is going to be on a box of Wheaties if she gets an agent?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
