On an asphalt track ....
:o
As I predicted, the mile fanatics have got him. Now he'll never run 1:45. What a shame.
I can't even think of American milers in recent years who would have been better off specializing 800M. The 8/15 runner has almost disappeared. People dream about Wariner but that's coming from the other direction.
Long while back there was an American who competed from 800M up to 2 miles throughout his teen years (and ran cross country). When he was 19 he ran an 800M WR that still stands as the American Junior Record, almost 50 years later.
So maybe there's still hope for Arroyo.

6x600 @ mile goal pace....
I don't know, but that sounds like a pretty good 800m strength workout as well.

Not in the US. The US 1500m is dominated by 8/15 speedier types.
Robby Andrews?
Guys,
Andres is good. In fact, we all can all say that he's super good! But at the moment the best Puerto Rican 800 meters runner is Wesley Vasquez. 1:45 and 4th place at the world junior champs.
I just watched the interview (http://www.distancepreps.com/gprofile.php?mgroup_id=31488&do=videos&video_id=84301) with his coach from the Embry Riddle meet...so disappointing.
Here's a kid that obviously has a shot at going sub-4 in the mile in high school, and last weekend he raced a great 800 on Thursday...and then came back Saturday to solo a 9:01 3200 (why?!?!?!?), is going to race another 3200 next weekend, and then TRIPLE 800-1600-3200 for their state series (for Florida, how many levels does that entail? League-District-State? More meets? Fewer?).
I know he would have to be race-sharp to go sub-4, but this reeks of a coach racing the snot out of a kid while he has him to "win" races and score points instead of continuing to focus on long-term development and giving him a chance to accomplish something rare and historic.
How is a few weeks of racing going to hurt his long term development?
Of the 5 to break 4 in high school, Webb and Ryun were 800/1500 types and Liquori, Danielson, and Verzbicas were 1500/5K types. Fernandez who in my opinion had a shot at sub 4 was a 1500/5K type, and Alex Hatz who I also think could have hit sub 4 was a 800/1500 type

you know what would be terrible? a coach sitting down with their athlete and asking them their goals. perhaps the athlete replies with, "coach i want to win everything in sight. i don't give a damn about times. if i win, the times will come." then the coach enters their athlete in every race they possibly can, because that's what the athlete asked for.
did the same workout off 3 mins rest instead of 4mins. I wonder how much of a difference it would of made with that extra recovery. 96/96/95/93/94/90 the first three were a bit more relax and we got more intense as we went on felt like I could do probably 2 more predicts for my mile time?

For 1:45 you need rip snorting speed

Symmonds only ran a 47 last year, no? (Assuming that was an honest effort)
Arroyo is not simply running to win.
This is what makes him a great runner.

That's at least two rips and two snorts ahead of Arroyo's 49.
My prediction: 3:57.3....with a 56 last lap.
Webb ran 3:53 with a 57 final quarter, and Arroyo seems to be in very close form to 2001 Webb.

Alright you've had enough. Time to cut you off.
i dont think it's fair to compare webb to arroyo. sure, arroyo has the speed evident by his nearly even split 1:47, but alan webb was second at footlocker (in arguable the most competitive footlocker race ever) and ran 8:45 for 2 miles (he could have gone faster). in terms of strength there is no comparison.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
