University of Toledo Coach Hadsell Resigns

Stop making out his athletes to be such victims. Dear god he does not "prey" on us. What kind of messed up image have you people come up with? I considered it an honor to be coached by Hadsell. He was more than just a coach to us, he was a father figure and a friend. Do you really believe everything that you read? Just because some disgruntled former athlete rants on here, it should be taken as the truth? He always knew how to make practices fun and the workouts worthwhile. I guarantee every woman on the team right now would have 10 great things to say about coach for every horrible thing said on here. That's just how he is. He has his faults but he is also a great coach and friend.

Obviously he is not perfect. But who is? Who has the right to judge anyone and try to ruin their entire reputation based on a rumor with no solid evidence whatsoever? Anyone who is doing this is just holding on to a grudge you may have had with him. Grow up and move on with your own life and think of what you're really doing before you slander someone's name.

Most of us would just like to know why he resigned. That's all.

Reading about him he seems like a great guy, might have gone out of bounds but hopefully life is about learning from mistakes and he'll land on his feet.

Was it ever clarified what was up with Vig leaving UVA? Sounded very similar.

What were his faults? Did he get fired for his faults? Why did he get fired? If someone gets fired for sleeping with an athlete and they really did sleep with an athlete then that is not slander...it's not legally slander if it's true...like that cheerleader they had on the news yesterday that slept with a student

I honestly chuckled at reading this because it could not be further from the truth. You use the term "kid" but we're all adults. No one is "preyed" on and it's actually pretty insulting to us that everyone seems to be portraying as these weak females. Stop making the women on this team seem like victims.

The reason he resigned is between him and the athletic department and that isn't going to change by anyone blowing up these message boards.

He may not have coerced anybody into a relationship but not-sleeping-with-students is a universal policy for a reason. Across cultures and across time this has been frowned upon and seen as an abuse of power.

He may have had a genuine relationship with one or more athletes over the years but, genuine or not, it violated policy and he had to go. This is black and white.

I have no pony in this race. But, I would add to this "girl vs women" debate that my Mom had 2 kids, a husband and her own small company by age 22. My sister is 19 and serves in US Airforce. They are women I look up to and would punch you if you told them they are girls not capable of making their own decisions. They would accept responsibility for their decision.

I don't know what this Toledo guy did, but anyone who finds it okay for a boss or person in power to make advances toward those under his/her guidance is wrong.

It appears you want Hadsell's violation of university policy to be a secrete between him and the athletic department. Instead of hoping for a cover up you should be hoping for the truth to be told. If you are not on the side of the truth and transparency then you are on the wrong side.

And why are you fabricating this kid issue, the term "kids" was used in reference to parents finding out about their kids at college possibly being in a relationship with their coach. Even if you are a 55 year old adult you are still the child of your parent, and thats how the term "kids" was being used.

Sorry, but I have no grudge against Hadsell, I am simply in favor of promoting the truth and not participating in covering up wrongs that may have happened. Right now you may be too close to the situation to see things clearly, but the truth is the best in the end. There is more than rumors here and it needs to be investigated and exposed.

Current Athlete, are you trying to imply that because the girls on the team are over 18 and technically adults that the coach can engage in multiple relationships with those girls and they are not victims and its not wrong and everyone should just ignore it?? Kool-aid.

If they all worked at Applebee's and he was the assistant manager, yes, it would be creepy and speak volumes to his low self esteem to hit on the "new" girls...

But it wouldn't be illegal or morally wrong. That's just life.

Most if not all athletic policies state that a superior cannot develop a relationship with one they have control over. Whether that be in the classroom, on a athletic team, as a sponsor, or even an advisor. Think about how much access a coach or whoever has to secured personal info, scheduling, and grades.

Former Athlete, I believe that is what current athlete is trying to imply, except they are missing the entire point that although a consensual sexual relationship between coach & athlete may be A.OK in current athlete's book, it certainly isn't in any athletic departments, anywhere.

No one is insinuating any of the women are "weak", it is a matter of a person in power over a person in a subordinate position.; figuratively and literally. WHICH ISN'T ALLOWED ANYWHERE.

Also, I'd like to point out that it isn't only a matter between the athletic department and Coach Hadsell because people's trust and well being have been damaged. So how about you, Current Athlete, continue sitting at the "kids" table and let the adults let others be aware of a man who took advantage of trust and his position of power.
