Yeah, like Mick Jagger. Oh wait. He still can do it.

He doesn't outright say it but I think he is enjoying the team atmosphere where there are several guys who are better than him at the 5k+ distance. They encourage and guide him as he's building up. Gives him good perspective to his fitness level and something to shoot for. Plus - damn - that is probably the most talented group in the US.
This could be GREAT for his 5000, where I think he could be top-3 in the US, no question.
Probably not for the marathon, though. Nothing about Webb or Schumacher's results suggests he'll do anything there, I'm afraid to say.

Fix't.
Hope Webb sticks with Schumaker... great to see he's going to focus on the 5k now.
Webb made a mistake leaving AlSal.
But in his current situation, I actually think Webb's new focus on the longer events will get him in shape and allow him to run at least 3:32 in the 1500m.
Last season, Webb lost 17 pounds and cut his 1500m from 3:54 -> 3:37, no base and really just didn't have the body to be competitive at any distance. This season, he will be stronger than ever - you have to remember, even guys like Solinsky ran 3:35 and Webb could probably crush Solinsky by 2-2.5s in a 400m in peak shape.
So, let me get this straight, the Schumacher group currently consists of (at least):
Tegenkamp
Solinsky
Jager
Bairu
Nelson
Bumbalough
Lomong
Fernandez
Derrick
Webb
Vaughn
...is that right!?!?

Good points. I am wondering if this type of moving up for a 30 year old miler is viable today. To get in the top 20 for 5000m one has to run around 13:02. In the '70s the milers would move up and run in the 13:15 to 13:25 range. Things have changed in the 5000m a lot on the world level.
If challenged to race this weekend by ANY member of that whole squad, LEVINS could take ANY event from 800 to the marathon.
And yes, I include the 2000m indoor steeplechase in that.
My understanding is that the group is this:
Teg
Solinsky
Lomong
Bumbalough
Fernandez
Derrick
Elliott Heath
Jager
Dan Huling
Alan Webb

Source? According to Bairu's Twitter he's still at least living in Portland and he's got an international cross season all planned out for himself. Would have thought this would be bigger news if true.
I have read the twitter that Bairu does have a bigger cross season ahead of him, but according to runnersworld, Nelson has gotten dropped. Vaughn I'm unsure about.
If Bairu is still with the group, I would not be surprised if he is 100% DONE with the marathon.
Do they still hold submaster races for the 35 to 40 set?
Webb is done folks....sorry
Peaked way too early - end of discussion.
