Unlike that that guy who posts that he visits hundreds of countries, I think many of us have come to realize that the greatest, most beatifule travel experiences in the world are right here in our backyard. Nothing compares to the natural and wild beauty of Western North America.
I traveled abroad when I was younger. Now that I'm older (in my 30's) I have zero desire to leave the country again. There's so many mind blowing places to see in our 50 states that I can't find a reason to put with all the hassle & headaches of traveling outside the country. You're right. It's hard for anywhere in the world to beat Colorado, Hawaii, or Alaska.
I think if I was from somewhere else, the US would indeed be the best place to visit. However, I live here so visiting happens in other countries. I think if you are curious how this world works, you need to get out there a bit. There are hassles abroad but if you travel in the US for business, there is no shortage of hassles.
My favorite country to visit is France.
