Will everyone here be excited if he runs a 2:08? If you'd be excited, why would you be? What does a 2:08 get you these days? Or even a 2:06? There are so many Kenyans and Ethiopians who have run sub 2:06 now it's ridiculous. It's not realistic to think that a guy his age who has a history of injuries will suddenly run a 2:06 and that in the next two years he'll get down to 2:05. Even if he did it probably wouldn't matter. It's funny, because when Hall ran a 2:06 it seemed like maybe he was the hope for Americans to start being competitive in the marathon. Since then, lots of the younger east Africans have turned to the marathon almost immediately and made a 2:06 seem almost pedestrian. At the same time, it used to seem like an American (born) winning a medal in the 5000/10000 was a pipe dream but now it's a reality and we have a few good 5/10 runners and some good young ones as well.
