You don't know the entire field yet.
not surprised
Smart move by Hall, he shouldn't have planned so quickly on a marathon after the Olympics. He should do the London Marathon in 2013 in my opinion.
Only question now is what will happen to his documentary?
Upon becoming injured, Hall was heard shouting "my coach, my coach, why have you forsaken me?"
*rolls eyes*
Dear Ry Guy,
You were doing a good job coasting on the base you built while training for many years under a human coach. That base has eroded and you are now suffering from being over trained and under developed. Please, go back to a human coach and rebuild your base properly. Then, begin to focus on training to race again. Perhaps aim for Rio? Stop playing games and start training to win if you want to excel on a world stage again.
You have a lifetime to live your religion. You only have a limited time to excel as an athlete.
Thanks,
I do hope he is praying for healing. I'm not sure why God doesn't want our best and most inspirational marathoner to run this fall but he has his reasons.
Best of luck recovering!

YOU ARE 100% CORRECT. Go to someone who will look at long term development.

Not a chance ;=)
I know that Ryan doesn't have a coach (seems to have been a big topic on some running website), but does he have any kind of physio/chiro/pt working with him on a regular basis?
Bill Squires
It looks like Ryan's taking a day off every week isn't keeping him fresh and injury free like he said it would. It also appears his self disception that God is directly coaching him isn't work that well for him either.
Ryan, be strong in your faith, but stop acting like all the rules of physiology don't apply to you.
Get a coach, pray that God guides that coach, and start training in a more realistic and responsible manner. If I was the NYRR I wouldn't touch you again for a long while, after you took their money and jogged a 10k earlier this year and now let them announce you were running their marathon and then pull out. God expects all be good stewards of the gifts He gives, and part of that is acting responsibably and rependably to others.

No chance. London doesn't pay him enough. Hall can only get decent entry money in US Marathons and the only ones willing to waste money on him are NYRR and BAA. He will run in Boston.
And I'm sure Hall tells himself everyday, "It's all part of God's plan," for him to be injured and run times that are beneath his real abilities.
I mean, it's not like God gave us, y'know, free will and common sense or anything... ;P

You think 2:04 is beneath his real abilities?
I have been saying this for a while now but it seems like his marathons are just going downhill one by one. His 2:4.58 is really worth around 2:07-2:08 so don't read into that too much.
He has lost all of his speed, wouldn't it be good for him to go back and spend a year focusing on the World Half Marathon championships or something in that nature and train for the 10k at the US championships? He could lower his mileage and pick up the intensity for a year. Then he could come back and run a spring marathon in 2014 at Boston or London and go out and compete with a fresh mind and body.
I am just one person with an opinion, but how well could this work for him? As we have seen Geb has gone back to the track multiple times and then go out and run a great marathon.
I guess we will see how Ritz does this fall at Chicago with a similar buildup.
Great. A new round of Hall bashing will commence.
I respect Hall for being honest and not just showing up to receive a 6-digit appearance fee when he knows he won't be in race shape. Despite all his critics, dude has integrity.

1. If he ran 10k's, they would be slow and it would hurt his earning potentials.
2. He knows he will never break 60min again for the Half.
3. Geb didn't want to run that Beijing 10,000, but his federation forced him to.
His coach could not immediately be reached for comment.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
