"We should note that Symmonds' record supports the idea that elites are physically and psychologically superior to most of us. When NPR personality and Runner's World columnist Peter Sagal tried a beer mile, he, well, didn't quite make it the whole way."
HAHAHAHAHA - Runners World at it's best!
So he couldn't get the WR, pathetic.
Here is the whole artical if the link does not work:
Nick Symmonds Breaks U.S. Beer Mile Record
August 22, 2012 10:01 am
By Scott Douglas
Here's an indicator the elite track season might be winding down: Last night Nick Symmonds, fifth in the Olympic 800-meter final, moved up in distance and lowered his American record in the beer mile. Symmonds' time was 5:19, he reported on Twitter.
For the uninitiated, a few notes about beer miling: The event consists of drinking a beer, then running a lap, four times, with the clock running the whole time. Each beer has to be finished before starting to run the next lap. Symmonds competed under the North American rules, which specify details such as a minimum alcohol content of 5.0%, no shotgunning or other methods of drinking other than from the beer can, and a penalty fifth lap for vomiting.
Symmonds was shooting for the world record of 5:09, set by Canadian Jim Finlayson in December 2007.
We should note that Symmonds' record supports the idea that elites are physically and psychologically superior to most of us. When NPR personality and Runner's World columnist Peter Sagal tried a beer mile, he, well, didn't quite make it the whole way.
Unlike many elites, Symmonds isn't secretive about his training. Below you can watch him put in the hard work that lies behind any American record.
Coors has more than 5 percent alcohol?
boss
Nick Symmonds can save track and field by going on the Colbert Report and participating in a "Stephen Colbert's Coors Beer Mile World Record Challenge 2012".
Entry list: Stephen Colbert, Nick Symmonds, Obama look-a-like, Romney look-a-like. Hmmm... need to add a girl.

I was wondering that, too. Coors Original is officially listed at 5.0 percent alcohol.

Poor choice Vessey does not look a bit like Romney!
Video? Don't you need one for it to be official? Make sure he turned the can over after drinking to ensure no remaining alcohol?

Nancy, is that you?
Did Nick ever actually hook up with PH or was that just a fantasy of his? If he did I eould think the gag inducing effects would be borderline doping for a beer mile record.
I hope he gets tested.
Wow. Really impressive.

umm...
I'm stunned that this is not a joke thread.
do you really think that he did not get compensated by coors for this? I'm surprised by the lousy time.
He's way more likely to attract Paris Hilton's attention by doing something like this rather than just running in the Olympic Games

Why? This time seems very impressive
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
