His strength is as good as anyone, and he has shown he can close in the last few races. That 27:27 10k he ran at Stanford - he wasn't even pushed. Ran away with it the last 200. He could very well win gold in London

It would be a pretty amazing story if he did. How do you think such success would affect competitive running, considering the way he's gone about it (high mileage)?
At the next level even a 27:20 10K is a tactical race.
No he isn't.
why nawt?
If it's slow enough through 8000m, sure why not. OTOH, the presence of multiple 27 flat and lower guys in the field will ensure that Cam won't be in the mix with 400m to go.
Would it be the first time someone with a PR 1:10 slower than the WR won the Olympic 10000m?
He's beating up on guys who are long shots to make the team of a country that hasn't won the 10k since 1964.
What Levins did is cool n all. But it means nothing on the big scene. Those boys can run 27:40 pace with a last lap of 55 in their sleep. Try droppin 52s at 27:15 pace.

^This. I'd love for him to prove me wrong though.
i think he will break drayton's long standing canadian national record in the marathon and 2:07 possibly dipping into high 2:06 is possible. i hope he runs the toronto and dubai marathons.
medaling in the london 10000 is possible if the whole continent of africa boycotts like in 1976, but dont see it happening.
good runner though, i just think the original poster is either being silly and/or carried away.
YOU forget about jose escamilla! He is taking the men's marathon and men's 10000m race at London! He is training very well and gaining strength everyday. This is big. VAMOS PUMA!
If Levins even got a medal, or finished in the top 5, I think it would change opinions on training forever, I know it'd change mine.
He will most likely blow out a knee at NCCA championships. He is a ticking time bomb!

How will he do at NCAA though?

Seriously. Put your money where your mouth is.
Let's bet on it. Lay some odds and I am totally down with this.
I appreciate what Cam has done and runners (joggers to the elites) should give this kid some respect for what he's done (example: making the Canadian olympic team), but for him medaling in London is completely crazy and will not happen this year. At this rate Cam would be fortunate that he doesn't run himself to the ground with his training/racing.
I guess saying he can win gold is a bit over the top, but I really do think he can medal. I'd lay some money down with 3-1 odds that he medals.
Canada + Billy Mills = Cam MF Levins
He needs to run in a TIME TRIAL race to really test what he got. Sam Chelenga ran 27-07 in time trial race while in college. If he gets into some Diamond league even, that would be interesting.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
