What are the greatest doubles of all time?
3:53,6/14:31,2 26 minutes apart
As I was saying in another thread, I have no doubts that a select few could have done what Farah did or better. But DID they ever do it? I'm doubtful.
But 5 years ago 3:34 for Lagat would have been nothing but a warm up for a 5K race. For Bekele in his prime a 13:11 would have been nothing but a cool down jog after a 3:34.
Btw, I'm disappointed Rupp didn't finish having gone so deep in the race. I suspect he would have faded in the end but it still probably would have been an impressive time by just about any standard.
Best double? Have we forgotten about Bekele already?
13:08 5k, 13:08 5k...... Zero minutes rest
mo's fitness level is bringing him into a new stratosphere. in this rarified stratosphere, normal rules do not apply...you can get away with being a little stupid = pushing the envelope so far away from the OG.
rupp was really wise to drop out, just as salazar probably told he and mo to do. rupp probably felt a little strange when mo did not follow the plan, but not to worry.
you want to save it for the trials.
Is he on thyroid meds now?

Coe front ran a 1:44.0 and then anchored the England relay team to victory with a 45.6 split against the US in 90mins in 1981.
Probably not as difficult or tiring as Farah's performances, but the times were equally impressive.
Mo was running 10k pace out there. Not difficult at all for him to close up a good last 800 off of 13:20 pace.
If he wasn't doing an amazing job rabbiting Ritz (hell, he even spent most of his last 1000 meters turned around talking to Ritz), I'm pretty sure he would have easily dropped a sub-13 there.

I think it is more than just thyroid meds. This Afrikan is taking some other drugies.
In the women's side I was chocked to see so many big jaws/chins out there. HGH and roids, what a combination!
This sport is rotten to the core.
I'm thinking when Jessie Owens broke several World Records in one afternoon it was better.
But having said that to run 13.12 when you are barely running sub 13.30 most of the way and are turning round and talking it pretty impressive.

lol
Did you know that most actors over about 35 are on HGH? Weird that they don't have braces and huge jaws, huh? It's almost like that's not really a side effect of supplementing low HGH levels.
Yep.....Also proves that coaches can dope the hell out of their athletes. Thats impressive too.
The impressive part of the double to me is that I don't think he planned to finish the 5000.
It looked like he decided to just keep going since he felt good and was near the front.
It was a ploy to tell Rupp they would stop at 4000 and then show him up by finishing and winning.

I would Coe's double was just as hard. Keep in mind that star H.S. athletes do similar doubles all the time. I saw a H.S. female run a 4:51 mile, 2:07 800m and split 54x in a span of about 2 hours. Relatively speaking, I would say that's equal to what Moe did.
You really think Farah is gonna run 26:24 this year? Last person to have run under 26:30 was Bekele in 2008 at Pre Classic 10K, which was a world record attempt. Weather wasn't in his favor, it was a bit humid so he ran 26:25. Point being, Farah isn't going to run 26:25. I can definitely see sub 26:40, even 26:35, but not 26:25.
Farah closed in about 1:58, which is definitely not 13:12 pace. The point is that he was on pace for around 13:20 (which, when you multiply by 2, gives you your 26:40) and then started hauling. He was TALKING with 500 to go.

What's your point?
Yup, times aside, you can't beat Paavo Nurmi's two golds. El G got the same golds, but not on the same day.
