It doesnt and it does. Tell me who it is that props up the public employees unions? Democrats. Who gives millions upon millions every year to the Democratic Party? Unions. Why? So that when those democrats are in charge, and those unions have to negotiate contracts with governments, those paid and bought Democrats will put union friendly negotiators in charge that will stack the deck in union favor.

It really is the same argument as Republicans and big business leaders in bed for easier tax laws, etc.

Fact is both parties are bought and paid for by someone and we the taxpayers end up shelling out of pocket for it.

She followed the incentives that were provided. When you base retirement pay on the individuals top earnings years, you are telling them that you want them to have a few years where they earn as much as they can by working a whole lot of overtime. Florida told her what to do by providing monetary incentives. She literally did exactly what she was told to do.

Many of you have missed the point, including the man above. She did not "bust her ass all (her) life". She was working a call center job that paid $60,000 a year. She wanted to retire and figured out a way to maximize her retirement by working an EXTRA 50 hours a week for TWO YEARS. Adding up to a probable 90 hours a week.

You see, some retirements are figured on what is called final average compensation (or FAC), the average of the last (usually three) years of your income.

Through COLAs she is now making OVER three times what the job paid for a normal workweek. I know that their are a LOT of people who make over 1.5M a year (and still have time to peruse Letsrun on Sunday night before they park their yacht for the evening) but not all of us do.

Nobody is upset that she IS making $182000 or that she was making $60000, they are upset that THE PUBLIC is paying somebody who may live 30 years in retirement $180k when that retirement should be closer to $40k per year.

I know it is hard for you to understand when you tip your waiter $2,000 each Sunday at the Club, and pay your caddy a Christmas bonus of $40,000 each year ... but we actually get what is going on here and it shouldn't be.

$182,000 for life is close to what the PRESIDENT gets as a retirement perpetuity. I know it seems crazy to you guys that make so much more than the president, but there are some of us out there.

Our retired congressmen cost the public over 25 million dollars per year. I have much more of problem with that. It's why I don't believe in Republicans. Any true conservative wouldn't take it.

No nation can sustain this sort of prodigality, no matter how rich they are.

And the last time I checked, the US national debt is $15.5 trillion.

In Britain, our national debt is of similar proportions and we are in the same boat, probably worse.

Our last government (left wing) added a million addition ‘public servants’ to the payroll.

So now, our unfunded public-sector pension debt is even more than our national debt and it will get worse.

The pensions of our retired public-sector workers are being paid, not from the long gone contributions they made during their working life, but from the pension contributions being made by the current workforce, with an additional large subsidy from the taxpayer.

Clearly this is little different from a massive Ponzi Scheme which, as it happened in Greece, is unsustainable and will blow up in our faces sooner or later.
