where are the times back to 2:20. Its also impressive that the winning Kenyan was making his debut and 2nd broke the Polish national record. America's days as the 3rd best distance nation are numbered.
How about the college junior who didn't do any training runs over 30k, was on 2:06 pace at 30k, and finished 9th in 2:10:02?
America is at best the 5th-best distance nation, by the way. It has been decades since it has been otherwise.
I just looked it up. Going by average of the ten fastest marathons per year by country, the last time the U.S.A. placed in the top 3 in the world was 1991.

Link please?
It's going to get more interesting when the Japanese change their training to run faster, as the Kenyans have done.
You people realize that there are distance races besides the marathon, right?
America is clearly 3rd best overall in distance running. Albiet there is a large gap between 1st and 2nd to 3rd, but there is a large gap from 3rd to 4th as well. Statistically, the Japanese are 3rd in the marathon, but with out a doubt, America would have a lot more 2:10 marathoners if more of our top track guys focuses on it. I am pretty sure Rupp, Solinski and few others could run a 2:10 marathon on a fast course if trained for it.
Also, only a few Americans run London, Berlin, Rotterdam, Tokayo and lake Lake Biwa, etc., were you run fast times. Off the top of my head, no Japanese male made the WC finals in any track or even a field event...not good by any standard.

Kōji Murofushi?

Rupp, maybe with time. He's definitely not prepared at this point, and dropped out of the marathon trials.
Solinski never. He might break 2:20 but that's it.
Off topic a bit but does anyone know where I can find the NRs for Japan & China for mid & long distance?
He was also the tallest Japanese elite, listed at 1.86/64kg (6.2/141). Impressive times and range, from 7.41 to 2.06 marathon.
Ghost in Saudi,

for japan- brett larners site understatistics.
china-tilastopaja deep lists which is a subscription site.
Yeah, drugs work at any distance in any country.
Hey track coach! Americans do run some of these races and lets be honest here! TONS of Americans run at places like Boston or CAlifornia International, which are arguably faster than any of the courses you just mentioned! Americans just aren't as tuff as Japanese! Yes they are better on the track, but just have no are so soft from being pampered their entire lives!

Until just recently Boston was not considered a fast course. Most people saw the uphills as tough and the downhills as quad killers because of where they are on the course.
I would like to see more Americans at the fast courses with faster runners.

Does Morocco not count in your evaluation?

Yes!
I am talking about the mile to the marathon, male and female.

Distance running is 10k, halfmarathon, marathon, ultras.
Seriously? You're basing our distance "ranking" on the marathon? I don't see any Japanese runners running under 4 in the mile, under 13:00 in the 5k, or under 27:00 in the 10k. Get real.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
