Pete Watson accepts job-Pete Watson runs off upper classmen.
good for him! that ship appears to be sinking fast! fetzer and his two clowns don't know what the hell they are doing. he'll bounce out of UVA faster than he's bounced from his last four jobs.
Coach Watson please stop posting on letsrun.
Trust me this is not coach Watson. I don't even really like coach Watson. I think he needs to grow up and dress like an adult, but I think all the people on this board and all the people over in Virgina need to give him a break. It is not his fault Vig is gone. It is Vig's fault that Vig is gone.
Can any of you Virginia people tell me about vigilantes training? Like why is he so good?

Nicely done.
It’s not unusual for a collegiate champion to leave school in an Olympic year. I do find it interesting that Andrews, who was known as a loyal team mate to leave the program at this time of the year. I have heard there are more middle distance athletes who left the team which has not been posted. This would indicate there is a big issue with the training program implemented by Watson for the middle distance athletes. I can’t help but reflect on the 400x15 workout Robby had a few weeks ago which seems to be the root cause of his leaving. I would tend to believe VIG who focused on low mileage and high impact workouts is so different from Watson’s high mileage distance focus that this was likely the reason for Robby and other middle distance runners to leave the program. I would even surmise ego played a role here, I’m sure Watson is tired of hearing VIG did this…and that would be too bad if he was unable to compromise training for a national champion to retain him.
Honestly, I see no reason for a new coach NOT to be fine with whatever a national champion has been done in the past, and let him or her do their own training.
Actually is highly stupid to change the structure of a training so late into a season
Losing an NCAA Champion is never good, no matter how good of a program you are or you want to be. National Champions don t come around every day
But the new coaching staff deserves a chance as well!
Vig is a slime. Vig is the cause of these problems. His xc team at Virgina got worse every year he was there. He can only coach 800-1500 and those guys are studs anyway so they would be good if they chose to buy in at any program. They have chosen not to buy in and need to go do something else. Watson should not compromise for robbie andrews. If Andrews doesnt like it then he should move on like he is. A good team culture needs to be built. Don't let the door hit you in the ass, Robbie.
It sounds to me that Robby Andrews went to UVA because of the coach and the program.
Now the coach is gone, the program has changed, and the new coach sounds like an uncaring authority figure who must get his own way. Also, Robby is not a 10000 meter runner.
It makes perfect sense to me that Robby and others would move on.
I also think he should move on.
From his twitter feed he is really, really into his girlfriend. Perhaps no one has told him about the track groupies in Europe yet.
I know everyone on here loves him since he's not from (or currently running in) Oregon. But I don't get the man crush. He's a good college runner but has lost badly in the races I've seen him run against pros. Maybe I'm comparing him unfairly to Centro last summer and Wheating the summer before. But from what I've seen he's not quite ready for the big stage.
From what I know about the recent developments of uva program a lot of things posted in this thread are wrong. A few points from what I have heard:
1. the distance guys (besides robby) have totally bought in to Pete Watson and have really liked him
2. A lot of them don't like Fetzer
3. Robby has a lot of people that are in his ear that don't know whats best for him. This includes his girlfriend and coach vig.
4. He's a young emotional kid that has no idea what he's doing, but who would know what to do at his age and his unique situation.
5. It will be very interesting to see what kind of a financial offer he gets from the shoe companies. There are a lot of people that are very interested in him but he has not produced anything on the international level.
My advice would be to go out to Oregon, join one of those teams where he has a full support staff and better runners to put him in his place. Get away from all of the drama that seems to be surrounding him and Vig on the East Coast.
Great idea. Change coaches in march just 4 months from the Olympic trials. That will go well for everybody involved.
Sometimes the ideas that come across this board are shockingly dumb.

My guess is he'll go with Johnny Gray.
Didn't know JG was coaching. Last time I heard he was a successful entrepreneur.
Yea, a guaranteed 10 points at NCAAs is easy to find, great idea to let Andrews go. Don't make any accommodations for the best track athlete in the entire NCAA. That's a good idea. Skipper should really be a coach, he'd be great! He would never score a single point but, man, he would stick to his "good team culture"!
Thanks for the laugh, skip!
Johnny is co-distance/xc coach at UClA along with forrest Braden. Johnny of course focuses on the mid distance runners and braden the long distance ones. They been there for 3(?) years now.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
