You really think Phillips would go back to Purdue? The place has bad karma.
phillips has more bad karma than purdue
Gavin Kennedy leaving Illinois for Ole Miss, that was sure a quick stay.
Why would Gavin leave? Is Ole Miss better than Illinois?
Is it just me, or is UNC taking a very long time on their coaching hire?
How quickly should a program make a hire?
Should they not:
1) post a position
2) give adequate time to review applications
3) conduct phone interviews/contact references
4) bring in candidates individually to interview
5) once a choice is made, an offer is given
6) time is allowed to think about said offer
6a) candidate may approach current institution requesting raise using new offer as leverage
7) position may be turned down by 1st choice, repeat #5.
For large programs, such as UNC, hiring a Director of TF/CC is a major hire and hopefully someone to guide the program for ears to come, as in Craddock so they do not have to repeat the process for another 27 years.
So now ask... "what is taking so long?" (it is not even July!)
$$$$ Definitely not a step up in programs

It is Men & Women and in the SEC, so it probably pays quite a bit more, and definitely better resources.

Early stages obviously but any inside sources to a replacement lined up?

It may be done already and they are waiting until after the Trials to announce. The hire may have athletes in the Trials and this person doesn't want the news to be a distraction to their current athletes.
I know noone has mentioned this young coach but his name is David Burnett. He used to be the Sprint,Hurdles,Relay coach at UTSA in Texas and left in the Fall due to some personal circumstances. He is a relentless recruiter and team player. I've been in collegiate coaching for 15 years and this guy knows his stuff. Someone is going to be lucky getting him.

Please do elaborate on this one. Why would a guy leave his alma mater mid-year with no chance of return and nobody willing to talk about it?
How about it's "personal" business?
You don't know if someone in his family was dealing with health issues, or if he had some unexpected health issues.
Since when did personal business become public business? If the guy has a good record as a coach, and if his former employers recommend him as a good hire, that should be all that matters.
Who is or did interview at Kentucky???
I actually happen to know Coach Burnett and know he is a standup guy. Don't make this anything more then what it is a guy who needed to make a change in his life. If its personal then it should stay personal. He's young, he works hard and I know he went head to head with a lot of big name schools for recruits while he was at UTSA.
I know he's had the opportunity to have phone interviews at places like Florida St.,UC Davis so the guy must know something .
I know everybody including myself and Dave have their own faults but that's why you live life to learn from your mistakes, roll with the punches and stand tall and keep on trucking.
If I were a Head Coach I would give him a shot. Looking at the way he helped bring along the sprinters at UTSA he did a good job.
Mick is up at Canadian Trials to watch Mo in 10k. He'll be in Eugene Thurs.
just talked to him last night. I'm sure he'll get an Irish kick outta this.
Good luck to this burnett guy...I heard he's a minority so that sometimes helps now a days.
anyway whats going on with Wake Forest,Georgetown has a posting as well and whats going on at Virginia they only have Fetzer and 2 distance coaches on staff.
I am guessing the rest of the staff was not retained.
We have a Ralph White sighting:

He must be desperate. Ursuline is an awful, awful job.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
